Prime Video’s ‘Cruel Summer’ promises thrill beyond measure

Amazon Prime video has announced the exclusive premiere of teen thriller, ‘Cruel Summer’ on the platform. The streamer is set to begin streaming the original series from August 6.

‘Cruel Summer’ is the story of Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia), an introvert and a social oddball who becomes the most popular and sought after girl overnight in her town in Texas. She soon, however, falls out of favour and becomes America’s most detested person.

As things pan out, she has supposedly taken over the life of another popular girl called Kate Wallace (Olivia Holt) who had mysteriously disappeared from the town.

Going by the trailer, Kate returns to accuse Jeanette of witnessing her kidnapping and yet not reporting it.

The drama set between 1993-1995 over three summers, then, leads to spate of public-hatred, multiple lawsuits, broken relationships and chaotic equations that emphasize the unstable psychological states of its characters.

The rest of the cast of ‘Cruel Summer’ includes, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee, Brooklyn Sudano, and Sarah Drew.

The 10-episode original series piloted by Max Winkler is executively produced by Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple, with creator and executive producer Bert V. Royal and showrunner and executive producer, Tia Napolitano (Grey’s Anatomy).

Produced under the banner of Entertainment One (eOne) and Iron Ocean Productions, ‘Cruel Summer’ will be streamed worldwide exclusively on Prime Video barring the US and Canada.
