Crash Landing on You: Netflix gears up for highly anticipated Korean rom-com

Netflix Korea has announced the release of yet another original romantic series Crash Landing on You (Korean title: 사랑의 불시착), for a global audience, later this year.

The show stars two of the biggest names in the Korean television industry – Memories of the Alhambra alum, Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin of Something in the Rain fame.

The show has been described as being ‘Wizard of Oz-esque’, like Dorothy meeting the Wizard of Oz by accident.

Yoon Se-ri (Son Ye-jin) is a young heiress, and a fashion businesswoman, based in South Korea. She lives a luxurious lifestyle, having been born into a wealthy family, and also runs her own successful fashion empire.

While leisurely paragliding, a wind-storm accidentally sweeps her into North-Korean territory where she crash lands into the life of North Korean military officer, Lee Jung-Hyeok (Hyun Bin).

Similarly, Jung-Hyeok has led a great life and the future only seems to be bright for him. He is a man of principle and no-compromise, his self-confidence stemming from his elite and prestigious upbringing.

This bizarre accident only seems to turn their life into shambles and Se-ri is put in a tight spot when no one in North Korea seems to understand her or realise the trouble that she is in.

The silver lining in this cloud of absurdity is that the two find themselves falling for each other despite their perplexing situation. Jung-Hyeok is also the only one capable of protecting Se-ri from the authorities.

‘Crash Landing on You’ depicts how an endless cycle of luck, destiny and beautiful stories can begin from unlikely and unexpected misfortunes, bad luck, and crash landings.
