Chris Smith’s ‘Sr.’ on Netflix to celebrate Robert Downey Sr.

Director Chris Smith’s documentary ‘Sr.’ is coming to Netflix, the streamer has announced. It celebrates legendary filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. and had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.

According to the official description:

Sr. is a lovingly irreverent portrait of the life and career of maverick filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. that quickly devolves into a meditation on art, mortality, and healing generational dysfunction.”

The film has been produced by Team Downey’s Susan Downey, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Barclay Ford, and Kevin Ford. This is Team Downey’s second collaboration with Netflix after the series, ‘Sweet Tooth’ which is heading into its second season.

The documentary will premiere on Netflix later this year and is also set to screen at the New York Film Festival on October 10, 2022.

Talking about the project, Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey said, “We’re grateful to have Netflix partner with us on this highly personal project. They’re the ideal home for our unconventional, oft absurd, brutally in-depth homage.”
