Netflix India has revealed a host of new details regarding the characters in the second season of widely popular show Sacred Games.
It posted a series of pictures reimagining the cast as gangsters from the 70s with a short description on the side and quotes from the actors.
Sartaj Singh (played by Saif Ali Khan)
The cop finally stumbled upon the infamous Trivedi in the last episode of season 1, and the question ever since has been where does he go from here?
He apparently faces even more issues this season. “Season 1 was a setup, which deals more with the inner workings of his mind, personality and background. In Season 2, there’s a lot of tension and action. It’s got a few daddy issues as well, which is the reason Sartaj gets sucked into it,” Khan said.
Gaitonde (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui)
Gaitonde will have a lot on his plate having finally met his ‘teesra baap’ in the last season. He’s also going international with his business.
Siddiqui said: “See, the way he talks, the way he walks, remains the same, it’s the change in circumstances that brings about a change in any man’s internal state of affairs. It seemed unbelievable to me, but when we finally went abroad, it hit me that we’re actually filming this series internationally.”
Guruji (played by Pankaj Tripathi)
We didn’t see a lot of Pankaj Tripathi in the first Sacred Games season, but he will get a lot more screen time this time around to show us exactly why he’s widely considered to be one of the best actors of our country.
“Guruji is that tsunami whose impact is hard to gauge from its origin. You’ll have to watch the entire season twice to understand every move he makes,” he revealed.
Bunty (played by Jatin Sarna)
One of the viewers’ favourites from season one, Bunty returns in this season as one of Gaitonde’s trusted soldiers.
“Similar to Season 1, we’re constantly going back and forth in years and storylines, but there is a major change in Bunty’s business. You’ll see a very different Bunty in season 2 altogether,” said Sarna.
Batya Abelman (played by Kalki Koechlin)
One of the new entrants to the Sacred Games cast for the latest season, the character is wrapped in all sorts of mystery.
According to Koechlin: “She is a lost soul who is wandering from place to place, looking for a worthy cause to fight for when she meets Guruji. Her transformation is quite interesting as it seems to parallel Sartaj.”
Shahid Khan (played by Ranvir Shorey)
Another new addition, Shahid Khan will have a pivotal role to play in the upcoming season.
“When Vikram and Varun explained the character, I was sold. It’s a beautiful story, full of irony, and poignant. I was very happy that I got approached for the part. I met Luke Kenny after season 1 and told him how much I loved him in season 1. I didn’t know at that time that I’ll be working with him in season 2,” explained Shorey.
Jojo (played by Survey Chawla)
Chawla’s character also did not get much screen time in the first season, but she’s back with a much bigger role.
“Jojo is not afraid of anyone. She’s got multiple sides to her and has a tremendous impact on Gaitonde’s life in every way, which is hard to believe for a man like him. It was exciting and challenging to play her.”
Malcom (played by Luke Kenny)
The last time we met Malcom, he cut off Sartaj’s thumb. Imagine what he’ll do with a much bigger presence in this season.
Kenny said: “Malcolm is the thoughts manifested by Guruji. So, if Guruji is thinking something, needs something to get done, then he just gives an indication to Malcolm. There’s some crazy stuff that Malcolm does in season 2, and you want to wait for it to unfold.”
