Bridgerton season 3 to be based on Colin instead of Benedict

The upcoming season of Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ will focus on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington’s (Nicola Coughlan) romance unlike the third book which follows Benedict Bridgerton`s (Luke Thompson) love life.

While the first two seasons followed the narrative of the first couple of books from Julia Quinn’s series, the new show runner, Jess Brownell, has decided to change things a bit and jump straight to the fourth book, ‘Romancing Mister Bridgerton’. The news comes from Netflix’s recent FYSEE panel.

At the event, Coughlan said, “Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season 3 is Colin and Penelope’s love story, I have kept that secret since two weeks into season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here.”

In an interview with Variety, Brownell explained the reason for the switch. She said, “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people.”

While the reactions to the news have been mostly positive, fans of Benedict and Sophie Beckett’s love story have made their disappointment known on Twitter:

Season 1 and 2 of ‘Bridgerton’ are now streaming on Netflix with the third one in production.
