Netflix’s Bridgerton spin-off based on Queen Charlotte, an integral character of the main series, has finished filming. The series is set before the timeline of the Bridgerton series and has been directed by Tom Verica.
In a tweet, Verica wrote: “That’s a wrap. This production, this cast, this crew…just wait,” along with an image that just said ‘Queen Charlotte’.
The spin-off was announced back in 2021 and will narrate the origins and love life of Queen Charlotte. It will also include Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton.
The official synopsis by Netflix reads: “Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”
Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) all return for the show.
Shondaland, the production company responsible for Bridgerton, will helm the spin-off as well. Shonda Rhimes serves as the showrunner and writer. Executive producers include Verica, Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
The Bridgerton series aired its second season this year, which briefly held the record for most-watched English TV series on Netflix till the premiere of Stranger Things season 4.
The show has already been renewed for seasons 3 and 4. While the first two focused on Daphne and Anthony respectively, the third will follow Benedict.
