Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vir Das and Aarya earn International Emmy nominations

The nominations for the International Emmy awards 2021 were announced on Thursday with three Indian representatives being announced for the esteemed accolade.

The 49th iteration of the International Emmys will be held on 22 November in New York and recognizes excellence in television programs produced and aired originally outside the U.S., as well as non-English language US primetime programs.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his role in the film ‘Serious Men’. Vir Das received a nomination in the Best Comedy Series for his Netflix special ‘Vir Das: For India’ while the Disney+ Hotstar series ‘Aarya’ starring Sushmita Sen in the lead role, bagged a nomination in the Best Drama Series category.

Speaking about the Emmy nomination, Vir Das stated: “I am so honoured to be nominated, but I am just so happy it’s for a show about my culture, and my people and how funny we are. The special was my love letter to India and this is just unbelievable.”

Sushmita also took to Twitter to congratulate her team while also praising her fellow Indian nominees.

‘Aarya’ was created by Ram Madhvani and released in 2020 with the shooting for season 2 wrapping up in August 2021. ‘Serious Men’ was released on Netflix in 2020 and is based on a book of the same name written by Manu Joseph. ‘Vir Das: For India’ featured Das giving his one of a kind perspective on the long and storied history and culture of India and was released on India’s Republic Day of 2020.
