Barun Sobti wins best supporting actor for Asur at Asian TV Awards

Asur actor Barun Sobti bagged Best Actor in a Supporting Role at 25th Asian TV Awards for his portrayal of Nikhil Nair, a CBI forensic officer.

The web series revolves around the emergence of a ruthless serial killer which forces a former CBI expert, the aforementioned Nair, to abandon his teaching role and return to action alongside former mentor Dhananjay Rajput (Arshad Warsi).

Talking about the accolade, Sobti said in a statement:

“Asur was one of the most challenging roles that I’ve played in my career. Sometimes, I spent hours trying to figure out the roadmap of a scene in my head. To be recognized for this effort motivates me further to carry on this practice of meticulous planning and commitment towards my work.

“I will forever be grateful for all those people who are responsible for this. I will forever be grateful to all the people who created this great show and made me be a part of it.”

Oni Sen also won best director (fiction) at the awards for the crime thriller.

The filmmaker said:

“It brings me immense pleasure to receive the Best Direction Award for Asur at Asian Television Awards. Directing Asur has been a fantastic experience. It was fabulous collaborating with the writer Gaurav Shukla, the Voot Select’s creative team and the immensely talented cast. I would also like to congratulate Barun Sobti for his award.”

Apart from Asur, Paatal Lok came out as the winner in ‘Best Original Digital Drama Series’.
