Apple TV+ unveils first look for upcoming series ‘Shantaram’

Apple’s streaming service has revealed the first look for its upcoming series ‘Shantaram’. It stars Charlie Hunnam in the lead and is based on the 2003 internationally bestselling novel by Gregory David Roberts.

‘Shantaram’ revolves around an Australian bank robber and drug addict named Lin Ford (Hunnam) who escapes from prison and flees to India. There, he struggles to mask himself in a vibrant and chaotic city of Bombay during the 1980s. While on the run, he falls for the intriguing Karla. Now, he must pick between freedom and love and face the consequences of his choices.

In addition to Hunnam, the show also features Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Antonia Desplat, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph and Shiv Palekar.

‘Shantaram’ will premiere its first three episodes out of 12 on Friday, October 14, 2022. Following that, one new episode will air weekly every Friday through December 16, 2022.

The series has been written and executive produced by Steve Lightfoot, who also serves as the showrunner. Bharat Nalluri directs and executive produces. ‘Shantaram’ has been produced for Apple by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content’s AC Studios.
