‘Physical’ on Apple TV+ stars Rose Byrne as aerobics guru

Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer of ‘Physical’, an upcoming 10-episode series led by Rose Byrne (Mrs. America). The dark comedy tracks an epical journey of Sheila Rubin, played by Byrne, from a devoted but unappreciated homemaker to a lifestyle guru, who is a force to reckon with economically and professionally.

Going by the trailer, the story of ‘Physical’ is set in San Diego somewhere in 1980s. Sheila is an efficient homemaker and a supporting wife to her husband, a controversial public figure who is bidding for State Assembly.

Their seemingly ideal life is far from perfect as Sheila is unhappy with her current life and feels under confident, lost and purposeless as a housewife.

Her inner battles regarding her self-image alter her outlook towards life that seems like a negative and dark place.

The trailer of ‘Physical’ throws light on how she tries her best to manage her inner chaos and her family life, never letting her fears show either in her demeanor or actions. But the voices in her head increasingly make her feel miserable and she is at a breaking point.

That is when she finds deliverance through a highly unlikely source, her new found love for aerobics.

What starts as a passion for exercise, puts her on the path of emancipation as she merges her passion for aerobics with the newfound technology of video tape.

Her tryst with aerobics proves life-changing as she manages to turn her calling into a booming and successful business.

The cast for ‘Physical’ includes Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, Paul Sparks and Ashley Liao.

Annie Weisman is the writer, showrunner and executive producer of ‘Physical’; and the series, made under the banner of Tomorrow Studios, is directed by Craig Gillespie, Liza Johnson, and Stephanie Laing.

‘Physical’ will premiere on June 18 with first three episodes followed by the rest of the seven every subsequent Friday on Apple TV+.
