Apple’s 2022 TIFF releases to include Zac Efron, Jennifer Lawrence, Ewan McGregor and more

Apple TV+ will premiere six brand new titles at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival which will be held from September 8 to 18.

The announced titles will see the involvement of stars like Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lawrence, Zac Efron, Ethan Hawke, Ewan McGregor, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and more.

The film slate includes:

Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues

The legendary titular musician is presented through the lens of archival footage, never-before-heard home recordings and personal conversations in this intimate documentary.

From the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement, it showcases how Armstrong became the founding father of jazz during such troubled times.

The documentary streams from September 8 on Apple TV+.

Gutsy

Inspired by the Clintons’ acclaimed New York Times bestselling book, ‘The Book of Gutsy Women’, this eight-part documentary focuses on Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.

They use this film to celebrate the bold and courageous women who have inspired them including Kim Kardashian, Megan Thee Stallion, Dr. Jane Goodall, Gloria Steinem, Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson and more.

All eight parts of the film will premiere on September 9.

Produced by Oprah Winfrey, this documentary commemorates the legendary Sidney Poitier and his brilliant history as an actor, filmmaker and activist in Hollywood during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement.

The narrative features interviews with Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Robert Redford, Lenny Kravitz, Barbra Streisand, Spike Lee and more.

It will premiere on September 23 on the platform.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever

Zac Efron leads this film as Chickie Donohue, a man who decides to show support for his neighborhood friends serving in the Vietnam war. However, his way of doing so turns out to be extremely outrageous as he plans to travel to the frontline and give them some American Beer.

It will stream on Apple TV+ on September 30.

Raymond & Ray

The film follows the titular half brothers who have always lived under the wing of a terrible father. Fortunately, when he passes away, they use his funeral as a sign to reinvent themselves.

Raymond & Ray stars Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke, Maribel Verdú and Sophie Okonedo and will premiere on October 21.

Causeway

This film is an in depth and intimate story of a soldier’s struggle to adjust to normal life after returning home from the battlefield. It has been produced by Jennifer Lawrence who will also play the lead role.

It will stream on November 4.

Talking about the announcement, Apple’s head of features Matt Dentler said, “We’re thrilled to be debuting such a diverse spectrum of Apple Originals at this year’s festival. From documentaries about icons to dramas from Academy Award-winning filmmakers and actors, TIFF audiences are in for a treat. We look forward to giving movie lovers from around the globe a first sneak peek in Toronto”.
