Amazon’s ‘Them’ explores racial discrimination in the US

Amazon Prime recently released the trailer of ‘Them’ which is based on the migration of Black Americans from southern to northern America during the Great Depression in the 1950s.

The first season ‘Them: Covenant‘ is set to release on April 9.

A horror anthology, the series will star Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Alison Pill, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Melody Hurd, and Ryan Kwanten.

The story revolves around a black family who has recently shifted to a white neighbourhood in North Carolina. They are subjected to racist spurs and discrimination by the Whites and it gets intolerable. Soon, the family discovers evil spirits in the house which haunt them. It depicts their adjustment and dedication to win over both the social and supernatural evils.

The series has been written and produced by Little Marvin along with executive producer Lena Waithe (Emmy winner). Marvin is a staunch supporter of racial equality in the states.

The official description reads:

“THEM is a limited anthology series that explores terror in America. The first season, 1950s-set COVENANT centres around a Black family who move from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighbourhood during the period known as The Great Migration. The family’s idyllic home becomes ground zero where malevolent forces, next door and otherworldly, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them.”

The show has already been renewed for a second season.
