Amazon Prime Video launches ‘Watch Party’ for co-viewing

Amazon Prime Video is starting to roll out a co-viewing mode called ‘Watch Party’. The feature will first be introduced in the United States.

Watch Party does not require any added cost and anybody with an Amazon Prime membership can use it.

With up to 100 participants accepted, the feature syncs all actions for the viewers in the party, allowing them to pause and play shows and movies together. It also has a chat system for all participants to interact.

Users can currently only host sessions with Amazon Prime Video originals and titles which have been purchased or rented cannot be viewed together.

With COVID-19 forcing lockdowns in a number of countries, co-viewing has become an essential part of many households.

Netflix already has a popular feature called Netflix Party, the success of which has led to similar features for other platforms.
