Amazon Prime Video introduces mobile plan for users

Amazon Prime Video recently introduced its mobile-only plan to the world, starting with India. The mobile edition for its users has been launched in collaboration with telecom company, Bharti Airtel.

The latest Prime Video Mobile Edition is a single-user mobile-only plan, providing standard definition quality streaming to users. This new Amazon plan will be available to pre-paid Airtel customers. This will provide a 30-day free trial, followed by a 28-day plan priced at Rs. 89 for Prime Video content along with 6GB data. The plans are available in multiple formats.

Amazon Prime Video will continue its traditional Amazon’s Prime plan that is available for ₹999 annually or ₹129 a month.

Jay Marine, Vice-president of Amazon Prime Video Worldwide, in a statement said:

“…Given high mobile broadband penetration in the country, the mobile phone has become one of the most widely used streaming devices. With the launch of Prime Video Mobile Edition, we look forward to entertaining every Indian with our exclusive and original content.”

The introduction of this plan also hints at the competition with Netflix’s Rs. 199 mobile-only plan for Indian users. Amazon’s move has a purpose to penetrate deep into the rising OTT entertainment market and compete against players like Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, ZEE5, and others.

As Airtel teams up with Amazon for this venture, Shashwat Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer of Bharti Airtel said in a statement:

“At Airtel, we are deeply passionate about delivering a differentiated experience to our customers through our Airtel Thanks program. We are happy to partner with Amazon to democratize quality digital entertainment in India by leveraging Airtel’s core strengths of quality customers, deep distribution and best-in-class network for video.”
