All 12 movies unveiled by Netflix India

Streaming giant Netflix (India) has announced a major slate of 12 new films coming soon on their platform for their audiences. With genres ranging from romantic comedies to police dramas, Netflix unveiled the first looks of each of their 17 new originals amongst which 5 are web series and 12 are movies.

AK vs AK

AK vs AK

Cast: Anil Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap

The upcoming dark comedy where Kapoor and Kashyap play themselves is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and revolves around a kidnapping of Kapoor’s daughter made in real-time by Kashyap for the sake of their next release.

Bombay Rose

Animated movies are loved by kids and adults alike. Created by Gitanjali Rao, this animated original will showcase a romance between “living on the streets and loving on the screen,” with a touch of Bollywood.

Class of ’83

Cast: Bobby Deol, Bhupendra Jadawat, Hitesh Bhojraj, Annup Sonii

From the house of Red Chillies Entertainment, comes Class of ’83 (created by Atul Sabharwal) to tell the story of a policeman (Deol) who has been punishment posting leads him to becoming the Dean of the police academy. The story unfolds further as he trains “five lethal assassin policemen” during his time there.

Dolly Kitty aur Woh Chamakte Sitare

Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor Dolly Kitty aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is a story set in the outskirts of New Delhi of two cousin sisters helping each other finding their freedom.

Ginny Weds Sunny

This romantic comedy has been directed by Puneet Khanna and is set to portray the story of Ginny who lives with her matchmaker mom in New Delhi. Thanks to her mom, she gets introduced to Sunny – a boy who just wants to settle down and has given up on the idea of love.

Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl

Created by Sharan Sharma, this movie revolves around the life and times of Gunjan Saxena – the first Indian female Air Force Officer to fight in a combat zone during the Kargil War. Amongst announcements for other movies, Netflix recently released one for this film too voiced by Kapoor herself.

Kaali Khuhi

This movie is directed by Terrie Samundra (who has movies like Kunjo under her belt) and tells the story of a 10-year-old girl named Shivangi, who is responsible for saving her village in Punjab from its horrific past.

Ludo is one of the movies that was slated to be a theatrical release and is directed by Anurag Basu. The story plays with the concept of coincidences and beings together the journey of four different lives who eventually cross paths with each other.

Raat Akeli Hai

This cop drama revolves around a high profile murder and its investigation in a small town that further reveals toxic patriarchy in the victim’s family. This original is directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala.

Torbaaz

Torbaaz also joins the list of movies that were set to have a theatrical release but will now premiere on Netflix. Set in Afghanistan, this movie depicts the story of a man who is on a path to change the lives of some kids in a refugee camp, following a personal tragedy, via the game of cricket.

Serious Men

After entering the digital space with movies and shows like Ghoomketu and Sacred Games, Siddiqui leads this film revolving around an ‘under-privileged’ but ambitious father that finds out his son is a “boy-genius”. The story unfolds further as he tries to use this newfound fame to bring fortune to his family which instead leads to destruction.

Tribhanga – Tedhi Medi Crazy

Cast: Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Mithila Palkar

Tribhanga is directed by Renuka Shahane and produced by Ajay Devgn (Ajay Devgn Ffilms), Deepak Dhar & Rishi Negi (Banijay Asia), Parag Desai and Siddharth Malhotra (Alchemy Films). This “dysfunctional family drama” depicts the life of three different women Nayan, Anu and Masha.

Netflix’s announcement follows that of Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video India announcing their lineup of premieres including Gulabo Sitabo. As theatres stay shut and more people choose to stay indoors, streaming platforms have constantly been shelling out an array of new content despite hardships.
