Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘The Big Bull’ sees Abhishek Bachchan as Harshad Mehta

Ajay Devgn has announced the release date of his much-awaited production ‘The Big Bull’ with an official teaser. The Abhishek Bachchan starrer film will be released on April 8 on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.

‘The Big Bull’ will showcase Bachchan as a small-town guy who becomes a famous stock market manipulator. The movie is reportedly a depiction of Indian stockbroker Harshad Mehta’s life, also known as the big bull. He was involved in the popular 1992 security scam that brought him to light.

The teaser shows the scenes of Mumbai city during the year 1987 with Bachchan signing as Hemant Shah. The movie has been introduced as “the mother of all scams”. It talks about the financial scandal that exposed the loopholes of the Bombay Stock Exchange.

A similar web series based on Mehta’s life and financial frauds was ‘Scam 1992’. It premiered on October 9, 2020, on SonyLIV. Director Hansal Mehta claimed in an interview that his web series was inspired by the book ‘The Scam: From Harshad Mehta to Ketan Parekh’. He also added that ‘The Big Bull’ is a fictionalised movie version of the same story.

‘The Big Bull’ is directed by Kookie Gulati and co-produced by Devgn, Anand Pandit, Vikrant Sharma and Kumar Mangat Pathak. Ileana D’Cruz will play the role of the Indian business journalist and author, Sucheta Dalal, who exposed the real scam. The movie also stars Nikita Dutta, Sohum Shah, Lekha Prajapati and Ram Kapoor.

In a sneak peek clip about the movie on Disney+ Hotstar, Bachchan describes it as the story of an ambitious man rising from rags to riches. He also expresses the joy of working with the wonderful cast and hopes for the audience to like the film.

The trailer of ‘The Big Bull’ will be released on March 19, 2021.
