The Married Woman on ALTBalaji: An unconventional love story

ALTBalaji boss Ekta Kapoor has revealed the first official teaser for the platform’s upcoming web series, ‘The Married Woman.’ It stars Ridhi Dogra and Monica Dogra in the lead. The series will premiere on International Women’s Day i.e. March 8.

The show is an official adaptation of Manju Kapur’s book, ‘A Married Woman’, which was published in 2002.

It narrates the story of a Delhi middle-class married woman, Astha, who begins an extra marital affair with a younger woman. This happens amidst the 1992 political and religious unrest in the country which was caused due to the Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya, and the lingering taboo against homosexuality.

The series was announced in January 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

ALTBalaji tweeted the news over a year ago while informing that shooting was yet to begin.

Both leads, Monica Dogra and Ridhi Dogra, will make their digital debuts with this show.

According to the official description the series is “an unconventional love story of two beautiful souls who rose beyond religious, sexual and societal boundaries to find each other”.

Furthermore, it explains that ‘The Married Woman’ highlights “individuality beyond conditioning, spirituality beyond religion and connections beyond sexuality.”
