5 web series starring Kalki Koechlin you need to watch

Kalki Koechlin is one of the most versatile and gifted actors of the Indian film industry. Her choice of roles blended with her charm and craft, never fails to leave a mark on the audience.

Over the years, she has made a name for herself in the OTT space with stellar roles that highlight her skills to a tee. From Bhram to Smoke, here we bring you five times she gave jaw-dropping performances in a web series.

Made in Heaven

Available on: Amazon prime Video

While the web series tries to unravel the dark and petty ideology of the big and rich families. Kalki shines in her own light through the complex and layered character of Faiza Naqvi. Her portrayal of Naqvi crumbling in pain and escaping through art adds an edge to her character and the storyline on the parallel.

Paavan Kadhaigal

Available on: Netflix

Paavan Kadhaigal is an anthology comprising four short films exploring the themes of inter-caste love, sexualities, honour killing, freedom and violence. Kalki’s choice of playing a homosexual woman is audacious (considering social institutions) and inspiring at the same time. She gracefully sails through the role, leaving imprints of her distinguished acting skills.

Bhram

Available on: ZEE5

Bhram is a psychological thriller starring Koechlin in the lead role. She plays the character of a haunted novelist, Alisha Khanna, who is introduced to startling truths after surviving an accident. Khanna is diagnosed with PTSD and experiences memory loss and hallucinations. Kalki completely justifies the challenging role with her excellent acting skills. The web series swings between the past and the present which keeps the audience gripped.

Smoke

Available on: Eros Now

Smoke rolls on the themes of drugs, mafia, and antagonism set in the dark underbelly of Goa. The cast is made of the cream actors of the industry, yet, Koechlin manages to leave her mark with her stellar performance. She is seen in the role of Tara, a DJ and mistress to Moshe, played by the late actor Tom Alter.

Sacred Games 2

Available on: Netflix

Koechlin plays the role of Batya Abelman, an enigmatic persona. Batya is in pursuit of power and control. What compliments her skills is that her character was a fresh addition to the storyline, not to be found in the book. Batya is the daughter of a Jewish father and a Palestenian mother, shaping the storyline with her presence in both the timelines. She smoothly dwells into the role of a spiritual leader and aces her way throughout.

The more we say seems less when it comes to complimenting Koechlin’s acting, her choice of roles and the enigma she brings to her characters. Her roles leave the audience comprehending her characters which are far deeper than what is portrayed.
