5 revelations made by Kim Kardashian on Letterman

Kim Kardashian is a woman who truly needs no introduction. Nonetheless, despite having been in the direct spotlight for more than a decade, the reality-star has still managed to shed some light on certain events from her past that are quite staggering, to say the least.

In the first episode of My Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman (Season 3), the veteran broadcaster sits down with Kim Kardashian as they discuss some of the most shocking details from the businesswoman’s past, ranging from the OJ Simpson trial to Kardashian’s Paris robbery.

Here’s a quick recap of the interview, with five new facts we learned about the media personality:

The OJ Simpson trial broke up her family

“I remember answering the phone. It was dinnertime and we were all sitting down, and I answered the phone and it was a call from jail. And it was OJ.”

Kim was only 14 years old when it happened. The Simpsons had always been close with the Kardashians, with Kim and her sisters referring to Simpson as “Uncle O.J.”

The reality-star recalled that just the week before the incident, both families were enjoying a joint-family trip in Mexico, “and then this happening was kind of unimaginable, but then having your dad take one side and your mom take the complete opposite side.”

It became a highly contentious issue in the Kardashian household. Kris Kardashian had been close friends with Nicole Brown Simpson and was convinced that O.J. had murdered her friend.

Whereas, things took a completely different turn at Robert’s (Kim’s father) house, who served as a defence attorney for O.J. who was also his close friend.

“We didn’t really know what to believe or whose side to take as kids because we didn’t want to hurt one of our parents’ feelings,” Kim said in the interview.

Kim walked in on Bruce dressed fully as a woman

“Bruce called my phone and said, ‘Whenever you’re ready, I’d love to sit you down and talk to you, but in the meantime, don’t tell a soul. Your mom has no idea and she will kill me.'”

Recalling another memory from when she was 26 years old, Kim talked about how she walked into the garage to find her step-father, Bruce Jenner, fully dressed as a woman and how she immediately left for her sister’s house due to the immediate shock.

Before Caitlyn Jenner fully transitioned, she was Kim’s Olympian stepfather, Bruce, who she described as the “best stepdad”. Nevertheless, the situation pushed the family into a difficult position.

It was just a little bit confusing because we all wanted to be there in support of but then also wanting to support our mom who this is news to. It’s just a lot when you find out along with the whole world,” the star added.

However, she did go on to say that, “I do feel like she helped break barriers and helped break that door open for people that didn’t really understand.”

A chilling detail from the Paris robbery

“Since people have been arrested for it, and I get to read their confessions now, and so had realized that they had been following me for two years leading up to this moment.”

In 2016 Kim went through a traumatic experience in Paris, when she was held at gunpoint at 3 am in the morning, and robbed of $10 million worth of jewellery. Remembering that experience on the show brought the star to tears, however, there is a tiny detail that she disclosed which is quite spine chilling.

Oddly enough, Kim and her friends had discussed a similar hypothetical scenario the same day during lunch. “Me and my girlfriends, we had lunch that day and said, ‘If you guys were robbed, what would you do? Would you just give them the stuff?'” she recalled.

“And I said I would say, take everything, just take everything. Nothing is important. And then that night [I was robbed].” She revealed that in their confessions, the convicted had mentioned that they had tried to carry out a similar plan earlier, however, at that time Kanye was with her, so the plan didn’t work out.

As of late, she admitted to having half a dozen security guards at her house, otherwise, she can’t sleep. That is a reality that she has come to accept and is fine with.

Pursuing a law degree and owning it

I don’t want to rely on having to bring a plus one, an attorney with me everywhere I go, ‘cause I don’t know the ins and outs of the laws. I want to figure this out myself.”

Taking an unconventional route, the reality star registered with the California State Bar to study law through an at-home program. “It’s called Reading the law and it’s in California. There’s four states that do it this way.” Kim said.

“You have to spend almost 20 hours a week in an office, with attorneys that do this apprenticeship with you…and then after year one you have to take the one-year version of the bar,” she explained.

“Abraham Lincoln did it this way, famously, so it’s legit,” she said giving Letterman a good laugh.

David Letterman misjudged Kim Kardashian

“Being famous for being famous, that never squared with me because it’s a television show, and being one of that stars of that television show, if you didn’t have a certain star quality, that show wouldn’t have succeeded.”David Letterman

This one is more like a David Letterman revelation. Though sitting face to face with Kim Kardashian now, the legendary show host wasn’t always fond or accepting of the social media star. In fact, she used to be the butt of his many jokes.

Back in 2013, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian appeared on The Late Show, and David Letterman’s attitude towards the women was perceived as a bit rude, leading to a bit of an awkward interview.

In My Next Guest Letterman confessed that “the notion of fame for being famous, I always thought that was hollow.” However, things have come a long way since then. In an interview with the New York Times the veteran show host talked about how he misjudged Kardashian,

“Oh, I was at the head of that list. I can remember when she would be booked on the show, it was like, I don’t know anything about her, and I’ve never seen her show. And then when we went to talk to Kanye, I thought, oh, I’ve misjudged this woman.”
