Streaming platforms across the world are continuously producing remarkable content and the Indian market is no exception. While some series are expected to return with new seasons, new scripts are soon going to make their way to your screens as well.
We’ve picked out five of the most promising web series that are ready to take over 2019 and here’s all you need to know about them:
1. Bard of Blood – Netflix
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, is all set to release Bard of Blood on Netflix India this year.
The series will feature Emraan Hashmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kirti Kulhari and Vineet Kumar Singh. Based on a book by Bilal Siddiqi (that bears the same name), the thrilling show revolves around ex-RAW agent Kabir Anand.
2. Hasmukh – TBA
Nikkhil Advani’s upcoming dark comedy Hasmukh is co-written by Vir Das and will tell the story of a stand-up comedian who wants to be a serial killer.
Backed up by Sameer Nair’s Applause Entertainment, the series has also signed Ranvir Shorey and Suhail Nayyar. As of now, the streaming platform has not been confirmed for its release.
3. Flames 2 – TVFPlay
The Viral Fever and The Timeliners are expected to return with the new season of high-school romance Flames this year.
Ritvik Sahore, who plays the role of Rajat, announced the new season with a sneak peek for the audiences via Instagram. This teaser hints at Rajat and Ishita’s (played by Tanya Maniktala) relationship progressing.
4. Sacred Games 2 – Netflix
Much-loved thriller Sacred Games is expected to release its second season by end of August 2019. While the release date has not been confirmed, cast reveals by Netflix India showed some new additions such as Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey.
While there are rumours surrounding the involvement of Sobhita Dhulipala from Made in Heaven and Harshita Gaur from Puncch Beat, it is confirmed that Pankaj Tripathi will have a more significant role this season.
5. Comicstaan 2 – Amazon Prime Video
Comicstaan Season 2 is all set for release on July 12. The competitive reality series allows aspiring comedians to make a mark while being judged by some of the best stand-up comics in the country.
This season’s judges panel includes Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Neeti Palta, Zakir Khan, Kaneez Surka and Sumukhi Suresh. The 8-part season is likely to be hosted by Urooj Ashfaq and Abish Matthew and was announced by Rath via Instagram.
