Streaming giant, Netflix has released its entire film slate for the year 2021. Out of the many titles announced, 13 Netflix original films will release this year which are spread across different genres and cater to the diversity amongst Indian audience. This collection is said to be Netflix’s largest announcement to date.
Here’s a list of all 13 upcoming Netflix original films for 2021:
1. Ajeeb Daastaans
Cast: Fatima Sana Shaikh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Armaan Ralhan, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Abhishek Banerjee, Inayat Verma,Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul, Tota Roy Chowdhury
Another addition to Netflix’s anthologies, this is a collection of four contrasting stories which highlights unexplored emotions and fractured relationships. Each story encapsulates different feelings, dramas and reactions. Through the course, we’re taken on a roller coaster ride to distinguish right from wrong.
2. Bulbul Tarang
Cast: Sonakshi Sinha, Tahir Raj Bhasin
This is a sweet story of Bulbul who has an innocent wish to see her groom, Rishi Kumar, arrive on a horse for her wedding. Little does she know that the traditions of her village do not permit it. Set in Kannauj, the film takes us on a ‘behind the scenes’ journey of Bulbul’s wedding. Will her wish come true? We have to wait and watch!
3. Dhamaka
Cast: Kartik Aaryan, Mrunal Thakur, Amruta Subhash, Vikas Kumar, Vishwajeet Pradhan
A frustrated ex-news anchor’s life changes when he’s thrown into a fast-paced life of betrayal after he receives a call from terrorists with a bomb threat. As the events unfold, he is given another chance to revive his career by going live on prime-time television.
4. Haseen Dillruba
Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, Harshvardhan Rane
A woman finds herself caught in the chaos of her husband’s murder, while all she wished for was to live like words captured in a novel. Journey along with her to see what twists await her life.
5. Jaadugar
Cast: Jitendra Kumar, Arushi Sharma
Set in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, this Netflix film will take you on the journey of Magic Meenu, a small-time magician, who is trying hard to win his love. He has to win a football match in order to marry the woman he loves but neither does the lady love him back nor has his team won a match in years. This heartfelt sports comedy will see magic meet love as Meenu struggles for success.
6. Jagame Thandhiram
Cast: Dhanush, James Cosmo, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiyarasan, Joju George
Suruli (played by Dhanush), a nomadic gangster, finds himself in the middle of a gang war to claim his home, rightfully.
7. Meenakshi Sundareshwar
Cast: Abhimanyu Dassani, Sanya Malhotra
Meenakshi and Sundareshwar are married off to each other because their names combine to form ‘Meenakshi – Sundareshwar’, the famous temple of Madurai. Tables turn when a job opportunity exclusively for single men pops up in Bengaluru and Sundareshwar leaves his wife alone and pretends to be single. What follows are the challenges of an arranged marriage in this Netflix original long-distance story.
8. Milestone
Cast: Suvinder Vicky, Lakshvir Saran
Ghalib is a recently bereaved, middle-aged truck driver. He has too much to deal with — a personal tragedy and its consequences, a threat to his job by a young recruit, and a lot more. The shining point in his career occurs when Ghalib’s truck touches the 500,000 kilometres mark. No one has done this ever before and becomes a record at his company.
9. Navarasa
Cast: Revathy, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Anjali, Aditi Balan, Remya Nambeesan, Poorna, Prayaga Martin, Rythvika Suriya, Vijay Sethupathy, Arvind Swamy, Siddarth, Prakashraj, Yogi Babu, Prasanna, Atharva, Bobby Simha, Gautham Menon, Ashok Selvan, Nedumudi Venu, Delhi Ganesh, Kishore
As the name goes, these 9 movies featuring 9 directors and emotions will be bonded together by one common noble cause. The collection of films will be produced by Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan.
10. Pagglait
Cast: Sanya Malhotra, Sayani Gupta, Ashutosh Rana, Raghubir Yadav, Shrutii Sharma, Sheeba Chaddha, Sharib Hashmi, Aasif Khan, Rajesh Tailang, Meghna Malik
Sandhya has recently lost her husband and is unable to properly mourn his death. She sets out on a journey of self discovery, to find the purpose of her life while living with unique characters that she calls family.
11. Penthouse
Cast: Bobby Deol, Arjun Rampal, Sharman Joshi, Mouni Roy, Cyrus Broacha, Tisca Chopra, Abrar Zahoor
Vikram Saxena, an architect, suggests his five married friends share a penthouse in this upcoming Netflix whodunnit. It is all fun and games until one morning when they discover the corpse of a woman within the property. Scared, they question each other’s loyalty, marriages shatter and friendships break as the truth unfurls.
12. Sardar Ka Grandson
Cast: Neena Gupta, Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, John Abraham, Aditi Rao Hyadari, Soni Razdan, Kanwaljeet
Singh, Kumud Mishra, Divya Seth
A grandson returns from the US to fulfil his grandmother’s last wish, who is a fun-loving matriarch of a large, warm family based in Punjab. What follows is a variety of happy emotions.
13. The Disciple
Cast: Aditya Modak, Dr. Arun Dravid
Set in Mumbai, this Netflix original will take you on a ride of devotion, passion, and searching for the absolute. Sharad Nerulkar, an Indian Classical music enthusiast has dedicated his entire life to his craft and religiously follows the teachings of the old masters, his guru, and his father. Through the course, self doubt emerges in him and he questions the worth of the whole process. Follow Sharad along his path to attain excellency.
