On Thursday, after much delay, Netflix released AK vs AK, Vikramaditya Motwane’s ambitious directorial. The moc-doc stars Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap in the lead.
The film has received mixed reviews so far. While the genre is experimental, the film doesn’t fail to hold attention of viewers.
The premise of AK vs AK is set after a leading director (Kashyap) and actor (Kapoor) locking horns over who is better. Shortly after this, Kashyap kidnaps Kapoor’s daughter Sonam and asks him to find her before sunrise. The quest is filmed all throughout.
Since this is a fictional story shot like a documentary, all the actors play versions of themselves. While the ensemble holds Kapoor and Kashyap at its centre, there are other characters, too, who play along in this thriller.

Anil Kapoor
The actor is present in the film in all his glory. He boasts of his many successful films while staying diplomatic through the beginning of the film. His ego gets hurt after he asks Anurag Kashyap for a film but, in turn, gets reminded of his age and fading legacy.
It is revealed that he had rejected Kashyap’s films Allwyn Kalicharan and Grant Hotel, back in the day. Kapoor is devastated at the thought of his daughter’s kidnapping but his character never ceases to put his ego behind.
Anurag Kashyap
The other AK in the film is played by this yet another egoistic filmmaker. All throughout the film, Kashyap also boasts of his contribution to cinema. He even slams nepotism and the cinematic taste of Indian viewers.
Clearly, Kapoor and Kashyap are birds of the same feather but flock against each other.
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja
While she is mostly absent from the frame, her role is important because her kidnapping is what sets the stage for this chase thriller. She is mostly seen on video calls whimpering to be reunited with her father.
Sucharita Tyagi
The film critic and former Radio Jockey appears for a short time, but she witnesses the first public spat between the director-actor duo.
Harshvardhan Kapoor
Kapoor mostly plays a roadblock to this chase, than being a help. Ironically, Kapoor slams Vikramaditya Motwane for ‘Bhavesh Joshi’ who is also the director for AK vs AK.
Yogita Bihani
Yogita Bihani plays the cameraperson behind this shoot who is given instructions to keep shooting no matter what.
Boney Kapoor
Anil Kapoor’s brother and film director Boney Kapoor also appears as he waits for Anil to get home for his birthday celebration.
Anand Ahuja
Ahuja doesn’t make a physical appearance in the AK vs AK, but is seen communicating with Kapoor on his phone at various instances.
