In Mea Culpa, Zyair Malloy is an artist who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. Trevante Rhodes plays Zyair Malloy.
Zyair Malloy is a renowned artist who faces immense backlash upon being accused of murdering his girlfriend, Hydie.
There is evidence against Zyair. However, Zyair says that’s all a cooked-up lie and he hasn’t killed anyone.
To prove his innocence, he chooses to hire Mea Harper as his attorney. Mea hesitates, as she will be fighting the case against her brother-in-law, Ray, but she eventually agrees.
A liar or not?
Zyair denies knowing how Hydie’s blood seeped down from his apartment to his neighbor’s or how Hydie’s skull fragments ended up on his painting, which is all evidence against him.
He also doesn’t know why Hydie would say that Zyair is going to kill her in her last video and denies taking a $3 million life insurance policy from Hydie.
An ex-girlfriend of Zyair stated that Zyair is rough when it comes to intimacy. Zyair answers by stating that she was rough too.
Zyair also sheds new light on some of her statements. He was the one who ended that relationship, not his ex-girlfriend. Also, she was the one stalking him; he didn’t stalk her.
Mea and Jimmy think Zyair is lying. However, later, Zyair admits that he loves sex, but he is not a womanizer. He is into wild things, but he would never hurt anybody, even though Hydie’s video suggests that.
The charm
Zyair has had flings with a lot of women. He has a method of charming women that works all the time. He uses the same method on every other woman, including Mea.
For a very long time, Mea maintains a strictly professional relationship with Zyair, who soon admits that he is attracted to her and knows that she is attracted to him as well.
It’s only when Jimmy sends the picture of Kal and Jenna entering a hotel room together that Mea decides to sleep with Zyair.
The setup
Mea learns about the true nature of Zyair after meeting Renee Wilson, an ex-girlfriend of Zyair. Everything Renee shares about Zyair makes sense to Mea.
Mea discovers paintings of other girls under hers at Zyair’s apartment. She also discovers Hydie’s painting with a threat on it, which sees Mea dropping the case immediately.
Later, Mea crosses paths with a woman who looks like Hydie at a resort. She confronts this woman, who hesitates to answer and runs away, confirming that she is Hydie and that she is not dead.
Mea informs her brother-in-law, Ray, who is handling this case, but it turns out that the controlling family of Ray, Azalia, and Kal set Zyair up because Charlise, Ray’s wife, had an affair with him.
Now that Mea has also had an affair with him, they plan to punish her and Charlise. However, Mea escapes and makes them pay.
Thanks to Mea, Zyair is acquitted of all the charges. He texts Mea so that they can reconnect, but Mea throws her phone away, showing no interest in having a relationship with Zyair.
