Zoe is one of the primary characters of the series and doesn’t even know about the reunion when she arrives at the school. The character is played by Emily Browning.
Zoe gets to the final of a reality dating show but after getting rejected, she has a meltdown, and eventually a bird shits in her mouth with the entire thing being broadcast on television worldwide.
To get away from the fallout of this hugely embarrassing moment, she holes up in her father’s cabin in the middle of nowhere with no connection to the outside world.
When she notices some weird happenings with the weather, she switches her phone back on to see an emergency weather warning. Unfortunately for her, the safe point in her area is her old high school where her class’s 10-year reunion is currently taking place.
Zoe arrives to find her former best friend Amelia and all her other classmates and while she tries to warn them about what’s happening outside, they’re all focused on how she publicly made a fool of herself like she always has.
An easy scapegoat
When the flood hits, everyone pounces on Zoe for knowing that something was wrong and not telling them about it, even though she reminds them that she did try but everyone thought she was crazy.
She does, however, prove useful to Saskia and unwittingly helps her push Sandy out to sea. Saskia then tasks her with covering it up to put Genevieve off the trail.
During this time, she also tries to rebuild her friendship with Amelia and wants to find out why they drifted apart and why Amelia left without a word.
She succeeds in getting closer to Amelia but the guilt of knowing about Sandy’s fate weighs on her throughout, especially after Saskia’s trial.
The meaning of friendship
After Sister Bicky reveals herself to the rest of the class and the girls begin their healing, Zoe and the others find out that Amelia left school because her mother had killed herself.
Zoe is distraught because she didn’t know that and Amelia didn’t feel comfortable sharing it with her. Amelia tells her that it’s no big deal and adds that Zoe needs to accept their friendship wouldn’t have lasted because they don’t have that much in common.
That evening, Zoe goes to the garage where Amelia sleeps to prove her wrong and show that their friendship is strong. They come out feeling closer than ever but it doesn’t last for long as Sandy returns and stabs Amelia in the back.
Everyone finds out that Zoe knew what Saskia did and they freeze her out on Amelia’s instruction. When Amelia convinces everyone to have a party, it’s Zoe who tries to stop them and finds out the truth about other survivors.
The other girls once again pile on Zoe during the tribal council and choose her as the sacrifice but Zoe reminds them that she’s the only one who knows how to operate the radio.
When Amelia offers to be the sacrifice, Zoe sneaks her away and tells her that no matter how much Amelia denies it, Zoe will be there to support her because that’s what friends do. They leave together on the boat Sandy made to find Scuba city and get Amelia’s medication.
