In The Bequeathed, the Yoon family’s burial ground becomes the cause of Yoon Myung-gil’s death.
Seo-ha learns about her uncle, Yoon Myung-gil, only after his passing. Myung-gil was poisoned by someone.
Although Seo-ha does not know anything about her uncle, the police investigate her and Young-ho because they seem to be the only people benefiting from Myung-gil’s death.
However, Detective Choi Sung-jun thinks otherwise. He investigates the murder independently and finds a lead that everyone else overlooks.
Death over a piece of land
Sung-jun spends time in the village and overhears a conversation between two girls that hints that Myung-gil was involved in a conflict with the village chief, Yuk Sung-soo.
He then attends Myung-gil’s funeral, which was arranged by the villagers, and notices that the villagers are excited.
Instead of mourning his death, they seem to be celebrating, even though Yuk Sung-soo claims that Myung-gil was very close to the villagers and that they were his true family.

Sung-jun begins his investigation by examining the bus stops and gas stations in Myung-gil’s village, Jinseong-ri. Outsiders rarely visit the village, resulting in low commercial activity.
He also finds out that a mountain in Jinseong-ri is a prime location for a golf course. The golf course would develop the village and increase commerce.
Apart from the golf course, a commercial building was also under construction. It was supposed to open after the construction of the golf course was completed.
Jijo Construction, the company tasked with constructing the golf course, acquired all the required land except for the Yoon family’s burial ground.
Despite the villagers’ attempts to persuade him, Myung-gil refused to sell his land. His persistence became a problem for many people.
The development plan was suspended. The construction of the commercial building, which is owned by the village chief, was also halted.
Sung-jun visits the commercial building and finds large quantities of thallium, which was used to poison Myung-gil.
Thallium can only be bought in large quantities, so the rest of it was kept in the building to make it look like it was there for construction purposes.
Sung-jun figures out that Yuk Sung-soo is involved in Myung-gil’s murder. He submits his report to the chief detective, who gets Yuk Sung-soo arrested.
Yuk Sung-soo then reveals that his college friend works for Jijo Construction, and he promised to give him a share of the profits if he convinced people to sell their lands.
As Myung-gil kept refusing to sell his land, Yuk Sung-soo’s friend killed him. Yuk Sung-soo and his friend then tried to convince Seo-ha to sell the land.
The family burial ground continues to bring misfortune even after Myung-gil’s murder. Following his death, his sister turns to violence in an attempt to secure the land for her son.
