Yoon Bo-min is a brilliant police officer involved in both the Lake View Motel case and the investigation on Seong-a. In The Frog, Lee Jung-eun and Ha Yoon-kyung play Bo-min.
Yoon Bo-min is a sincere, meticulous, and level-headed police officer. Early in her career, she worked on the Lake View Motel case, her first with the Violent Crimes team. Even then, she had a reputation for her keen observational skills.
After Ji Hyang-cheol’s arrest, Bo-min continued to support Sang-jun, understanding that he and his family were victims too, something others overlooked.
She accompanied Sang-jun to meet Ji Hyang-cheol to help him find closure, but her team captain misinterpreted her actions.
He believed that she took pictures of gruesome crime scenes and went to meet Ji Hyang-cheol because she was fascinated by crime scenes and criminals.
Bo-min disagreed but still ended up getting nicknamed “It,” implying that her intuition always led her to be “it” in a game of tag.
Nailing the killer, sparing the frog
Much later in life, after she becomes captain, Bo-min chooses to transfer to the country town where she had her first case.
By then, she is well-known as a genius who has solved difficult and famous cases. Despite her impressive work, she stays humble, crediting her success to good luck.
Soon after her transfer, Bo-min familiarizes herself with the area under her jurisdiction. While doing that, she meets Yeong-ha, who has just realized that Seong-a murdered her son.
Yeong-ha does not report the crime, but Bo-min senses that something is wrong. She gets the same feeling the next few times she meets him.
Then, the police are called to Yeong-ha’s house twice due to conflicts between him and Seong-a. On the second occasion, Yeong-ha is brought to the station after a physical altercation with Officer Kim, and Bo-min questions him.
Bo-min is so good at her job because her strength lies in looking for what is missing, not just what is present. She is skilled at reading people and situations.
She doubts and analyzes every person she comes across. Her thorough scrutiny tells her that Yeong-ha is troubled by something.
Even though he got into a fight with Officer Kim, she deduces that he is not naturally violent. In contrast, she believes Seong-a to be someone who can only control her anger through violence.
While Yeong-ha refuses to confide in her, Gyeong-nam does. He tells her about Seong-a breaking into his laundromat and informs her of Yong-chae’s injuries.
Bo-min, who had already begun suspecting Seong-a after seeing her shop for materials that could be used to dispose of a body, now realizes that Seong-a is threatening Yeong-ha.
She stops him from meeting Seong-a alone and makes a plan to rescue his daughter and arrest Seong-a, a plan she successfully carries out.
Bo-min cannot keep Seong-a in custody for long without solid evidence to charge her. She interrogates Seong-a, and even though Seong-a does not utter a word, Bo-min deduces that she has hidden a body in the cornfields.
Bo-min then risks her job and bravely stands up to her superior to find the body, which would allow her to charge Seong-a.
Although she succeeds in finding Officer Kim’s body, she fails to convince Jae-sik not to kill Seong-a. She herself gets shot during the confrontation but manages to close the case.
She is also the only person who manages to figure out that Gi-ho killed Ji Hyang-cheol but decides to keep his secret, unwilling to punish someone she sees as a victim.
