Yamamoto’s Bankai in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War explained

In the sixth episode of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Head Captain Yamamoto goes up against Yhwach and shows the wrath of his Bankai, which his rival has seen before.

Yamamoto wanted to end the war with the Quincies as soon as he can. While battling Yhwach, he reveals a Bankai where his sword absorbs all the heat and fire around the Soul Society.

Each and every drop on the premises began evaporating. Yhwach recognizes this Bankai that has formed around Yamamoto’s scorched little sword. Yamamoto calls this Zanko no Tachi, a Bankai that seals all of the flames into one single blade.

The different forms of Zanko no Tachi

Yamamoto refers to the first form of this Bankai as Zanka no Tachi, East: Kyokujitsujin. In this form, he concentrates all the heat of his flames on the tip of his blade.

It doesn’t burn or emit an explosive flame. The only thing it does is destroy anything upon a single touch without leaving a trace.

After using the East, Yamamoto heads towards using Zanka no Tachi, West: Zanjitsu Gokui. The heat of this form is 15 million degrees Celsius, which means no one will be able to touch Yamamoto at this point.

It’s almost like Yamamoto and his sword are like the sun. Also, if Yamamoto doesn’t end this war quickly, his flames in this form might destroy the entire Soul Society along with his enemies.

The third form Yamamoto uses is Zanka no Tachi, South: Kaka Jūmanokushi Daisōjin. Using this form, he brings back the dead to life. This dead army will work as his limbs and will attack anyone he wants to.

The final form is Zanka no Tachi, North: Tenchi Kaijin. Yamamoto uses this form to slash his rival in a single blow by generating a wave of fire and heat that perishes everything in its path.

Yamamoto resorts to this final form to end his battle with Yhwach once and for all. Yamamoto’s frustration brought him here, where he unleashed all of his power and was left exhausted.
