Yakub Ansari is one of the lead protagonists in Netflix’s comedy caper series, Choona. The character is played by Aashim Gulati.
Out of all the nine people who go up against the tyrannical politician Shukla, to exact personal vengeance upon him, Yakub Ansari is one of the first two who’s shown to cook up a revenge plan.
Throughout the story of Choona, his character contends with changing motivations, and even as his loyalty is questioned, he remains steadfast in the collective effort against the antagonist.
The Faulad inherited
Ansari’s uncle, Faulad Singh used to be a very well-known goon of his area. He was either the one causing some dispute or the one who ended it.
With an enormous frame and proportions, he was immediately intimidating to any and all. Ansari, who was just a child, was adored by Faulad Singh, his uncle but not by blood.
Faulad Singh’s story ended when he clashed with Shukla, a yet another fearless goon on the rise, who after getting beaten to hell by Faulad, used his new connections with the police and government to retaliate.
He then got Faulad Singh shot to death when he was out at the railway tracks to take a dump. Ansari claims to avenge his uncle at the beginning of Choona, but it’s only one of the reasons why he wants revenge.
Revenge for the humiliated
The second reason why he wants to take revenge against Shukla is because the latter humiliated and utterly defeated him.
It began as Yakub decided to take a leap toward achieving his dreams.

After causing much ruckus as a local goon, he shoots high. He goes up against Shukla by becoming the leader of the opposition protesting Shukla’s effort to graze down Pathaani Tola and build malls there.
He offers cooperation in exchange for a ticket to his party. Shukla is bested at first but soon uses his powers to show Ansari who the real player is, and he shows it to him by utterly defeating him, and sparing his life after almost killing him.
The goon on the rise is humiliated again, and old wounds become fresh as history repeats itself, forcing Ansari to lament his situation briefly before burning with a quest for vengeance.
Ambitions and motives
Yakub Ansari starts off as a student politician and becomes a local goon of his area, being a member of the local political party Maachis.
It’s a party neck deep in illegal activities and Yakub, on his quest to become the Chief Minister, regularly indulges in goon activities that put him at odds with Maachis leadership.
He later goes against the big dog Shukla himself. Midway through his and his group’s revenge, though, he gets to learn that Bela, his best friend’s sister he’s had a secret relationship with for years, is pregnant with his baby.
He very much wants to become the CM, and also exact his revenge upon Shukla. However, the safety of Bela and his unborn becomes a really important topic for him.
Bela eventually dumps him, claiming he’s not ready to be a father and instead wishes only to become a CM. However, Choona shows no such thing that would indicate that Yakub Ansari would rather choose political aspirations over his love and kid.
