Will: Platonic character explained

In Platonic, Will is Sylvia’s former best friend who parted ways with her on bad terms. They reconnect after years and rekindle their magic. Seth Rogen plays Will.

Back in the day, Will’s ex-wife, Audrey, and Sylvia hated each other. Sylvia even told Will that Audrey is not right for him. Will still married Audrey, and years later, it seems like what Sylvia said came true.

Will and Audrey’s marriage suffers when the latter starts climbing the social ladder to new heights as a successful art dealer. She starts looking at Will as a loser who drinks a lot.

Eventually, Will hooks up with a random person and finally puts their marriage to an end.

Will’s bar

While Audrey now has the whole world to herself since she is successful, Will only has his bar. He is a brewmaster there. He owns 24.5% of his bar, and he runs it with his best friend Andy, Omar, and Reggie, who is an investor in the bar and also Audrey’s step-brother.

Will: Platonic character explained 1
Will first rejects the idea of collaborating with Johnny 66

Will is pretty adamant about what their bar represents, which is why he first rejects the idea of collaborating with restaurant chain Johnny 66. He feels his bar and Johnny 66 stand for different things.

Furthermore, while everyone around him talks about the money they could make by working with Johnny 66, he completely dismisses this thought. It’s when he sees Audrey enjoying her life on Instagram that he decides to change his mind and give this deal with Johnny 66 a shot.

Will & Sylvia’s relationship

In the second episode of Platonic, Will and Sylvia break into Audrey’s house to pick up the former’s stuff, unaware that Audrey is home. Audrey confronts them and calls out the destructive relationship they have.

When Will and Audrey were together, Sylvia spent the time she was supposed to spend with her husband with Will. Sylvia and Will called each other by nicknames like two teenagers and talked till 4 a.m.

Will invited Sylvia to his dates with Audrey. Sylvia even picked clothes for Will. All of this had made Audrey uncomfortable, which led to her setting some boundaries.

Will and Sylvia don’t agree with Audrey’s view of their friendship. They think their friendship is actually constructive. Now that Audrey is out of the picture, they are back together and having fun again while they face their own personal struggles.
