Wendy and Chris have been through their fair share of ups and downs ever since they got into a relationship. Season 4 of Blood & Water sees the two finally call it quits on still amicable terms.
When Wendy returns to Cape Town, Chris and Lunga’s brief affair, which only amounted to a kiss (but a lot of attraction and tension), comes to an abrupt end.
Chris gets back with Wendy like usual and starts totally avoiding Lunga, which understandably upsets him.
The lurking Lunga
Throughout the season, Lunga keeps hitting Chris with jabs about how he threw him away as soon as Wendy came back, and also about how he was only ever of sexual interest to him.
Meanwhile, he strikes up a sort of friendship with Wendy; he’s really great at bonding with her and also tries to make Chris a bit jealous by doing so.
On the other hand, Chris and Wendy’s relationship is alright except for the part where communication counts.
Chris keeps messing up
Chris has mastered erring and keeps making hasty mistakes left and right, and then to rectify those mistakes he ends up digging himself a deeper hole.
This only frustrates and upsets Wendy more as she wants Chris to be truthful about things but he just can’t seem to understand the whole two-way street aspect of communication.
He lands himself and KB in trouble when he pushes forth with the latter’s tracks even though the tracks use samples that haven’t been cleared by the original artist.
Reckoning with Ruff Beats
The original artist turns out to be a violent thug, named Ruff Beats, who greets Chris and KB with threats and a beatdown from his men.
Ruff Beats demands 300 grand for doing him wrong and Chris thinks he and KB should join Tahira’s efforts to steal the papers and then sell them for money.
They manage to rake in a significant amount of money doing so before Principal Grootboom finds out about the cheating scandal.
The fear of being found out makes all the buyers to ask for refunds. Chris and KB find their funds depleted in no time.
Empty hands don’t speak to Ruff Beats, who then kidnaps KB and Chris and decides to ask their loved ones for ransom.
Their families are either not available or not worried or a combination of both. However, Wendy reaches out to Chris as Grootboom starts pushing her to summon him.
Wendy saves the day
She steals her mother’s Krugerrand collection to pay for the ransom but Chris and KB manage to break out of their captivity before getting themselves, Wendy, and others held hostage again.
Ruff Beats is about to drill into Chris’s fingers when Wendy steps up and calls Ruff Beats out on his unnecessary tactics, asking to make a deal instead.
She manages to talk it out with Ruff Beats, who finally lets Chris and KB go on several conditions that he requires to be met as an artist.
The breakup
Chris is thankful for Wendy but she’s over him now. She is upset and heartbroken over how much he’s kept from her and has lied about.
She says their relationship just can’t work as honesty and truth are the very fundamental requirements that he’s rarely been able to meet.
On one hand, Wendy steals from her own mother and deals with a violent gangster to save who she loves.
On the other hand, Chris can’t even manage to be honest with her. He realizes it too, as he apologizes to her.
Wendy breaks up with Chris but he asks her if they can still keep the sexual part of their relationship alive until graduation, and Wendy is more than fine with that.
The two are still great friends and split up on amicable terms. Chris redeems himself a bit by taking the fall for the stolen papers and getting expelled in the process.
He looks forward to being KB’s manager, while Wendy heads off to Spain for higher education before Blood & Water season 4 rolls the curtains.
