Viktor Sams in Death and Other Details explained

In Death and Other Details, the name Viktor Sams is behind Imogene’s mother’s death.

Rufus Cotesworth, the world’s greatest detective, is hired to investigate the death of Imogene’s mother.

However, after three months of investigation, Rufus is only able to find the name Viktor Sams, which frustrates Lawrence Collier, who stops cooperating.

Rufus fails to solve the case and meets a career downfall, whereas the Colliers come to believe that Rufus is a hack.

Rufus likes to think that Viktor Sams has something to do with the Colliers, which is why Lawrence stopped cooperating.

An alias

In the second episode of Death and Other Details, Rufus reveals that Viktor Sams is an alias, a smokescreen for an international syndicate that profits from corporate blackmail.

Intimidation is part of Viktor Sams’ MO. If his targets don’t pay, he sends them a message, which is why Imogene’s mother may have been killed.

There is a chance that Lawrence was Viktor Sams’ target. However, Rufus was never able to prove it. Lawrence kept his books under lock and key.

The revelation makes Imogene furious because someone who raised her might know something about her mother’s death, but he wouldn’t tell her.

An opportunity

The reason Rufus is on Varuna is to investigate this same case again. The rumor is that Lawrence is retiring and handing the reins over to Anna.

The Colliers are bringing in outside investors, for which they will have to open the books and expose their corporate secrets.

With that, Rufus may find the Colliers’ connection to Viktor Sams. Unfortunately, Rufus and Imogene fail to find anything about Viktor Sams in Colliers’ books.

Viktor Sams is mentioned again by Leila, who resurfaces in front of Rufus after disappearing for a while.

By then, Rufus and Imogene had caught Winnie as Trubitsky’s killer, but Leila claims that she is just one of the followers of the real killer.

The identity of Viktor Sams

In the final two episodes, Imogene’s mother, Kira Scott, is revealed to be Viktor Sams. She faked her death to protect herself from the Colliers, against whom she had built a case for using banned chemicals in China and costing the lives of innocent people.

Her mission, as Viktor Sams, is to punish the likes of the Colliers, who, in an attempt to protect themselves and their lives, throw the lives of the innocents away.

Kira gets her revenge at the end of season 1, but she doesn’t plan on stopping, even though her mission has flaws; it also involves the deaths of innocents.

All of this forces her daughter, Imogene, to secretly build a case against her mother and get her arrested.
