Plot summary:

Angela is a teacher’s aide at a kindergarten and lives a miserable life with her boyfriend at his grandmother’s house.

Jesi recently got a dead-end job at a fast food place and stays with her mother where her mother takes Lamaze classes for pregnant women.

They both get a call when their father, Ernesto Alejandro Di Pace, passes away. Angela and Jesi are step-sisters but Angela doesn’t want to acknowledge Jesi.

Neither of them can identify his body since Jesi didn’t have a relationship with Ernesto and Angela hadn’t seen him in 15 years.

His assistant, Inesita Alvarez Ballesta, identifies him and tells the girls a little bit about what their father was involved in.

He was caught in a bribery scandal that Inesita insists was far from the truth, but it did complicate his inheritance.

Ernesto had an apartment and Inesita promised to take them there following the funeral. They meet many important individuals at the funeral as everyone comes to pay their respects.

Among them are the mayors, Omar Chichi and Ezequiel Barzenac. Inesita takes them to the apartment which is in a classy neighborhood and has a magnificent view.

She says that because of the court case, the apartment is caught up in litigation but Jesi wants to stay there for a while to experience the good life.

Angela agrees to stay and keep watch over her so Inesita lets them crash there till there is more clarity.

The house has automated systems and Angela finds a card with a password amongst her father’s stuff.

She finds it in a journal and also spots a picture that she assumes is from a vacation she took with her father as a child.

Angela enters the password into the tablet and it opens up a vault with millions of Euros. Jesi wants to take it but Angela is unsure.

They decide to sleep on the thought and come back the next day. Angela looks into the bribery scandal that her father was involved in, while Jesi looks at the exchange rate.

Angela and Jesi meet at the apartment but cannot agree on what to do with the money. They go out to eat and Jesi reveals that she took some of the cash.

They go eat at a fine-dining restaurant but run into Ezequiel there, who invites them to join his table.

They get paranoid and leave but when they try to pay their bill, they learn that it was covered by Mr. Osterfil, the man at the center of the bribery scandal.

He was sitting with Ezequiel, and Angela believes they know about the money and probably want it back.

Since it is dirty money, Angela doesn’t want to touch it but Jesi points to their deplorable lives and suggests living a little.

Angela agrees to buy just what they need, but they end up going on a shopping spree. On their way back, they run into Daniel Severino, a reporter with a program on TV.

He shows up at their door later that night claiming that their father left him an item with his name on it.

They feign ignorance and send him away, but worry that he knows about the money as well.

The next day, Omar Chichi visits Angela at her school and says that there is an item he needs from Ernesto’s apartment that is crucial to his campaign.

Angela assumes that it is the money and tells Jesi that they need to hand it over. Jesi cannot accept that and packs a chunk of the money in a suitcase and bails.

Ending explained:

Trusting each other

Angela catches up to her and tells her that running away isn’t the smart thing to do. Jesi says that she has nothing to go back to in her life and would readily start a new one.

Angela considers the idea of running away but she needs to trust Jesi for that. She suggests sharing their deepest secrets.

Jesi cannot come up with anything so Angela says that she hates children and doesn’t want to be a mother. She isn’t sure she still loves her boyfriend either.

Jesi says that she lives an alternate life inside her head where she is a singer, and sometimes her reality gets mixed up.

They decide to come up with a plan but keep running into people who know their father.

Accepting the truth

After scrambling to get away from the police, Severino, Ezequiel, and Osterfil, Angela says that she has had enough.

She says that she doesn’t want to spend her life on the run and puts her foot down. Jesi says that she isn’t ready to accept her fate and splits the cash to go her way.

She tries to take the ferry but a bag full of cash is very suspicious and she is taken in by the police.

Angela is walking by an advertisement installment and one of the pictures is the same stock photo she assumed was of her and her father.

She realizes that her father wasn’t around for her, just like he wasn’t for Jesi. She burns the picture and then spots Jesi being taken away.

Getting away with it

She goes to the police and discovers that Jesi is in big trouble. She attempts to subtly bribe them but when that doesn’t work, she opens up the entire suitcase of money.

They agree to let them go for all of the cash, and the sisters leave having grown closer to each other.

They head back to the apartment where Omar is waiting for them. When they get into the apartment, they realize that all he wanted was the journal.

Inesita tells the girls that the apartment will be going up for public auction so they need to move out soon, but they aren’t worried.

The rest of the money is still there, and it is quite an amount. Angela takes some and hands it to Jesi’s mother, while Jesi gives some to the school where Angela worked.

They move to beachside paradise with the rest of the money, finally getting a chance to live the comfortable lives they dreamed of.
