The subway station is a location that only Five can access and it lets him travel to alternate timelines.
When Ben gives everyone the marigold, their powers come back and are significantly heightened.
The first time Five blinks, it is by accident and he ends up at a subway station with the signs in a weird language. The voice on the speakers is speaking in reverse.
He blinks back to where he was and the next time he does it is at New Grumpson. This time he goes down to the platform and takes the eastbound train one station over.
When he comes out, he finds himself in the same place and time but in a different timeline.
He keeps it a secret but then Lila forces it out of him when mimics his power and blinks with him.
A journey together
She wants to explore the station with him and tries to read the map provided, even though it doesn’t make any sense to her.
They end up in the timeline where Viktor destroyed everything. They are shot at by that timeline’s Five who is stranded there much like the original was.
They return to their timeline but when they learn about Ben’s death, they try to go back and change it so that the present doesn’t happen.
They go into the wrong timeline, but they aren’t able to return to theirs. They start traveling through all the subway stations and timelines trying to find a way home.
According to Five, they spend six years, five months, and two days before they decide to take a break.
They stay at a greenhouse in a peaceful timeline and gradually fall in love with each other. During one of his foraging runs, Five finds a diary in the subway.
It is in his handwriting and it explains how to navigate the tracks. He keeps it hidden from Lila for five months because he doesn’t want to go back to their old life.
When he finally shows her, she says that he is not allowed to take that decision out of her hands. They head back to their timeline, where only a couple of hours have passed.
The meeting point
After fighting with Diego over Lila, she indicates that it is over between them so Five heads back to the subway while the cleanse wreaks havoc in the city.
He spots another version of himself at one of the stations and follows him to a diner. Everyone at the diner is a different version of himself.
One of them explains that the reason timelines are bleeding into each other is because they shouldn’t exist.
They have tried to save the world thousands of times, but they are the original causes of it. He also says that every Five in that diner has given up trying to fix the problem.
The original Five decides that he needs to do it and heads back to his family. Before they sacrifice themselves, Lila takes her family and Allison’s daughter to the subway station.
She hopes that they can survive, but leaves them to go with Five because she knows that she has to sacrifice herself too.
All the tracks cease to exist once the cleanse gets them all, and the subway station presumably disappears too.
