Plot summary

Owen, a bank manager, is marrying the love of his life, Parker, who is a yoga instructor. However, Owen has never met her parents, as they live in the Amazon with a tribe, and it is not easy for them to travel.

Parker’s parents suddenly decide to come to the wedding, and Owen decides to put together a photo montage to surprise Parker. As he does not have any photos of her family, he contacts a storage facility where her parents have a locker.

When Owen inquires about the locker, a dangerous woman, Rehan, gets alerted. Soon, Billy and Lilly, Parker’s adventurous and unconventional parents who are very different from Owen’s judgmental and tactless parents, come to live with them.

Owen spends a day with Billy and Lilly, who take him to do all the thrilling things that Owen would have never chosen to do by himself. When they go to a club, Rehan finds them, thanks to Owen’s inquiry.

The next day, Owen’s bank gets robbed by two robbers in body armor and masks. Surprisingly, the two robbers know Owen’s name and everything about the bank’s security system. They get away with the money, but not without making Owen suspicious.

Owen comes to believe that bank robbers are none other than Billy and Lilly. In a drunken state, Owen had told Lilly everything about the bank’s security system that Owen had designed himself, and so they were able to carry out the robbery effortlessly.

FBI Special Agent Roger Oldham is handling this case and tells Owen that this was the work of the Ghost Bandits, the most notorious bank robbers in American history. As the robbers cracked the bank’s vault so easily, Oldham suspects that Owen might be involved with them.

Owen shares his concerns with Parker, who does not believe that her parents could be the Ghost Bandits. Owen then takes matters into his own hands and follows Billy and Lilly in the car that they had gifted Owen and Parker as their wedding present.

It turns out that Billy and Lilly are indeed the Ghost Bandits. They go to Rehan’s house to give her the money that they stole from Owen’s bank. However, Rehan tells them that they must pay her five million dollars within a week or she will kill Parker.

Owen overhears this conversation, but before he could inform Parker, he is pulled over by Oldham, who has been obsessed with catching the Ghost Bandits. He finds bank-robbing evidence in the trunk of Owen’s car and arrests him.

When Owen does not tell Oldham anything, he threatens to lock Owen up, which would mean Owen will be in prison on the day of his wedding. Owen has no choice but to tell Oldham that Billy and Lilly are the Ghost Bandits.

Oldham makes Owen wear a wire to get a confession from Lilly and Billy. When Billy and Lilly join Owen and Parker to taste cakes for their wedding, Rehan comes there with her minions and kidnaps Parker to ensure that Billy and Lilly do not run away without paying her.

Parker finally finds out the truth about what her parents do. Despite Billy, Lilly, and Oldham’s efforts, Rehan gets away with Parker.

Everything is now out in the open. It turns out that Billy and Lilly were aware of Owen’s suspicions and activities all this time, including the fact that he was working with Oldham. Billy does not approve of Owen, and that is why he tried to frame him for the robbery.

Billy and Lilly tell Owen that Rehan used to be their partner. They used to rob banks together, but when Rehan started to go crazy, they decided to leave; they did not want Rehan to find out about Parker.

On their last job, they took the money, betrayed Rehan, and ran away. Rehan has been angry at them since then. They lied to Parker and stayed away from her all her life to prevent Rehan from finding out about her.

To save Parker’s life, Owen is ready to do anything, even if that means robbing a bank. Billy and Lilly reluctantly decide to work with Owen because he is a bank manager and knows the functioning of all the banks.

The Out-Laws ending explained in detail:

What is Owen’s plan?

Owen prepares a list of all the banks according to their cash holdings but tells Billy and Lilly that they cannot rob Atlas Reserve, the bank with the highest amount of holdings, as the bank’s security system was designed by Phoebe King, the woman who pioneered bandit barriers.

There is no way to get into Phoebe King’s vault, as there are all kinds of systems in place, including biometrics, weight sensitivity, and more. However, they can rob Victory Union, a bank with a lazy manager.

A bank can only hold limited cash, and if the cash goes over that limit, the managers arrange for a cash pick-up from the vault. Since the manager of Victroy Union is lazy, he has one armored truck collecting cash from all the branches that he manages and taking it to the repository.

If Billy, Lilly, and Owen target that truck after it collects cash from all the branches, they will be robbing three banks at once.

Do Billy, Lilly, and Owen succeed?

When the truck comes to collect the money from the third branch, Lilly takes everyone hostage. Owen, dressed as Sherk, is asked to keep everyone in check with a fake gun, while Billy and Lilly get the money.

Lilly takes down one of the security guards, dresses up as him, and transfers the money from the truck to their getaway vehicle. However, the guard she had taken down wakes up, and Owen fails to alert Billy and Lilly because he is beaten up by one of the hostages.

Billy and Lilly fight the two security guards and gain an upper hand when Owen finally comes out with his water gun. The guards realize that Owen’s gun is fake and shoot at them. Owen then steals their armored truck, which has a lot of money in it.

Owen, Billy, and Lilly try to escape in the truck but are chased by the police. After a long car chase, the three of them manage to get away, but since the truck’s back door was open, all the money that was there flew out of it.

In the end, Owen, Billy, and Lilly are left with less than $100, much to their disappointment.

Does Owen rescue Parker?

Billy wants to find a way to rescue Parker and leave the country. However, Lilly refuses to run away again. As they have no other option, Owen decides that they must rob Atlas Reserve.

Owen gets Billy to tell his parents to be their getaway drivers, knowing full well that his parents will never commit a crime and will inform Oldham. While Oldham will wait for them to rob Owen’s bank, Owen, Billy, and Lilly will rob Atlas Reserve. As predicted, Owen’s parents end up informing Oldham.

Owen goes to request Phoebe King to show him her security system, but not without taking the gun that Billy gives him. It takes some convincing to get Phoebe King to agree, but she eventually shows Owen the security system.

When they reach the vault, Owen alerts Billy and Lilly. Owen steals the key from Phoebe King and locks himself inside the vault. Meanwhile, Billy and Lilly come inside and take everyone hostage, including Phoebe King.

Owen steals the money from the vault and gets out of it from the other side, using the emergency escape latch. Meanwhile, Oldham figures out what is going on and goes to Atlas Reserve with his team.

Owen takes the money to Rehan to get Parker back. However, after getting the money, Rehan tries to kill Parker and Owen, which leads to Owen accidentally killing Rehan and her men, saving Parker in the process.

Do Owen and Parker get married?

When Billy and Lilly arrive at the scene and find Parker safe, Billy admits that he has grown fond of Owen and that Owen now has his approval. Oldham, who had seen Billy and Lilly on their way and followed them, also comes there.

Billy and Lilly send Owen away with the cash to save him from the FBI. Owen gets back into the vault with the money, so when Phoebe King opens it with the police, it looks like he was just trying to hide from the bank robbers.

Owen and Parker get married, and Oldham brings Billy and Lilly, who are serving time, to the wedding. There, Owen is seen bringing them a piece of cake with a paperclip hidden inside it and telling them where he has hidden the car key to help them escape.
