Niko Style is the fighting style used primarily by Ohma Tokita in the Kengan Tournament and very little is known about it.
Niko Style gets its name from Ohma’s mentor, Niko Tokita who found him as a child in The Inside and trained him to fight.
Niko was the closest thing Ohma had to family which is why he took on the Tokita name and he wanted to win the Kengan tournament using his mentor’s fighting style.
Setsuna Kiryu is another person who was well versed in the Niko Style while some of the other experienced fighters were aware of its existence but little beyond that.
Ohma learns about another Niko from Setsuna, and this other Niko says that they were trained by the same master before Ohma’s teacher killed the other followers.
An important history lesson
Before their meeting in the final, Kuroki tells Ohma that he wants to share everything he knows about Niko Style since Ohma is Niko’s true successor.
He narrates the story of how Mukaku Gaoh wanted to unify The Inside and wasn’t afraid to go to any lengths to achieve that.
He went on a rampage but wasn’t able to achieve his goal so he chose to pass on the fighting style to others.
He found children, mostly orphans, and he picked the ones with the best fighting potential.
Niko and Other Niko were part of this group of followers. They all took on the mantle of ‘Niko Tokita’ for two reasons.
It was a name that would make it easier for these students to win over the people in The Inside. Secondly, the stories of these students would slowly gather, creating a myth around Niko Tokita.
When the people holding power in The Inside saw them as a threat, they went after them. Gaoh decided to teach his students his secret techniques and took them to the Gakigahara forest.
Unfortunately, there was trouble in the forest and a massacre reduced the numbers of the students drastically.
Mukaku Gaoh was never seen after that day, and Niko tried to track him down. That eventually led him to Kuroki when he found out about the Kaiwan Style.
He came asking for help finding Gaoh, and Kuroki could tell with one look how strong Niko was.
Niko Style borrowed the best of Gaoh Style while shedding unnecessary elements to adapt it to modern times.
Gaoh formulated this style with Shimochi Kazufumi’s help and Kazufumi passed all of this information down to his pupil, Kuroki.
