Plot summary:

A geography teacher named Alberto Alvarez who crafted a public island-wide treasure hunt for the golden compass he commissioned, sprouts several treasure hunters.

Max is also interested in puzzles and tries to solve the clues, but he and Miranda are called to action when the teacher is kidnapped.

The kidnappers demand that they want the treasure in exchange for Alberto’s life. Max wants to solve the clues while Miranda prefers doing old-fashioned police work.

Max also has to deal with the presence of his father who has come to visit him in Mallorca and criticise his decisions.

Alberto’s body is later found, and the primary suspects are his son and daughter. Max and Miranda discover that Alberto set up a test to see which one of his children would be loyal to him.

His daughter got too greedy because of her money troubles and killed him, but the detectives eventually caught her.

During a charity function, a wealthy aristocrat’s wife is killed and the blame falls on a street seller.

Max and Miranda are asked to investigate that angle but it becomes a conflict between the rich and the poor in the eyes of the public.

Max is the more optimistic of the two and wants to believe that the street seller is being framed.

They later discover that the victim found out that her in-laws gained their fortune from illegal means and was sentenced.

After piecing the clues together, Max and Miranda arrest the right suspects and solve another case.

Max couldn’t have done without some key information from Carmen’s father. Carmen says that she got a job offer in Madrid and asks Max to move there with her.

Inspector Blanco from Madrid arrives in Mallorca to capture notorious conman, Ramon Silva.

He asks Miranda and Max to go undercover as a married couple and fall prey to Ramon’s real estate scam so that they can catch him in the act.

They put on a good show and the plan goes on without a hitch until Max realizes that they have been played.

Blanco is also a fake who works with Ramon, so Max and Miranda go chasing after them.

Ines knew about this and was running a secret operation to catch them, but the plan was almost ruined when Max and Miranda discovered the truth.

Carmen moves to Madrid with Max staying behind, unsure of their future together.

When a criminal informant escapes during a prison transfer, Miranda and Max must reluctantly work with Inspector Benito Mancuso from Barcelona to track him down.

This leads to the arrest of a major crime boss and Miranda and Mancuso grow closer to each other after getting at each other’s throats from the start.

According to Miranda, Max sees them kissing, but it is only a brief romance. After a smuggling bust goes awry, Max and Miranda are punished with a minor case.

They have to go undercover at a luxury resort and catch a room thief stealing from the guests.

Max discovers that the thief is the son of one of the staff members who just wanted a better life for his mother.

Meanwhile, Miranda has doubts over another one of the staff members and this leads to them bringing down the smuggler they missed out on earlier.

Miranda is forced to take a holiday and Mancuso returns to follow up on some information that the informant gave him.

A body washes up on shore and the detectives suspect the women-only island retreat nearby.

Miranda decides to go there and investigate on her own, and Max and Mancuso arrive just in time to save her after she discovers the truth.

Mancuso heads back to Barcelona and Miranda has a change in perspective after her experiences on the retreat.

Ending explained:

Not the real case

Miranda and Max are called in to investigate a missing journalist and learn that she was supposed to interview a local billionaire and eco-activist.

The billionaire is hosting an event to raise awareness for his cause, and the journalist has been following his son around because he has been meeting with a noted eco-terrorist.

She tells Mac and Miranda that there is an assassin called “The Judge” in Mallorca to perform a hit during the event.

Interpol gets involved with one of Miranda’s old colleagues as the lead detective in charge.

They do not believe the threat is real but do not want to take any chances.

Pushed aside

Miranda tries to warn the journalist that she is a target since she is close to the truth but it isn’t enough and the journalist and her source are killed.

Interpol steps in and takes over the case with Max and Miranda cast aside. They get into an argument about their differing motivations and say some very mean things.

Interpol figures out where the assassin is staying and sets up a plan to catch him. Max and Miranda are ordered to act as security at the event while the action happens elsewhere.

Finishing the job

The assassin is killed, but Max and Miranda discover that he has been working with an accomplice who is at the venue.

The billionaire’s son mentioned that they wanted to cause some drama as a publicity stunt, but his father hijacked the plan.

The second assassin was supposed to kill a movie star and make her a martyr to the billionaire’s cause.

Max and Miranda successfully stop her and receive the plaudits from Interpol for their help.

They make up with each other and admit that they wouldn’t want to be anywhere else or have anyone else as their partners.
