The Luxbrant job in Rabbit Hole explained

In the first episode of Rabbit Hole, Weir’s team executes a job for a company called Luxbrant, which later costs Weir his whole team.

Weir meets Miles Valence, the CEO of Arda Analytics, with whom he shares a past, for a job that Valence thinks only Weir’s team can do.

The job Miles has for Weir involves a company called Luxbrant, a huge player in the luxury brand market. They own a ton of high-end labels, everything from clothing to furniture.

There are rumors suggesting that Luxbrant has been using child labor, and these rumors have triggered an investigation into their finances led by the Treasury Department.

Luxbrant claims that their rival, the Banomar Group, has engineered these allegations to tank their stocks so that they can swoop in and buy them at cheap rates. The claim made by Luxbrant is not true, but Weir’s team has to make it look like it’s true in order to have the investigation called off.

To create this deception, Weir’s team needs to show proof that the Treasury Department investigator is working with the Banomar Group. They just need a few photographs to feed the narrative and squash the investigation.

Weir’s team will be aiming to bring the CEO of the Banomar Group, Dana Heinrich, and Edward Homm, the Treasury Department investigator, together.

The execution of the Luxbrant assignment

Weir tells his team about the schedules of the individuals they are targeting. Homm spends most of his time shuttling back and forth between the Treasury Department offices and the Kettering Hotel in Midtown.

For Dana Heinrich, Weir shares the route she uses to go to her office. Basically, he is on the East Side and she is on the West Side; they don’t know each other, yet somehow Weir’s team has to make it look like they are colluding with each other.

Weir’s team starts executing its plan in the morning. One of his teammates drives a heavy-duty truck and kills the truck’s engine on Heinrich’s route, causing traffic and a ruckus on the road. A desperate Heinrich opts to walk and look for a cab instead.

Another one of Weir’s teammates picks her up in his cab and circles her around the city, only to drop her where Homm is. In the meantime, one of them also poses as a cop to force Homm’s driver to take a round.

Lastly, a teammate of Weir uses her dogs to bring Homm and Heinrich close. Weir’s team drops an envelope near them that has the Banomar Group’s logo on it. They make sure that Homm picks it up and hands it to Heinrich so that they can click them together.

Is Homm really dead?

Weir’s team successfully executes the job, and Weir hands the pictures to Valence, who is pretty impressed. The job costs them a lot when Weir gets accused of killing Homm, and his face is shown on every news channel as a wanted man.

Weir’s office is also blown to pieces. The explosion kills every member of his team except for the new intern. When Weir goes to confront Valence, he realizes that someone is ordering him to do all of this before watching Valence jump off the balcony of his office.

In order to lay low, Weir heads back to his childhood home, where he is keeping Homm alive and hostage. It is later revealed that Valence instructed Weir to keep his team in the dark and kill Homm. Apparently, Weir never killed Homm. Someone is finding ways to frame Weir, and he is determined to figure out who.
