The concept of The Red in Titans explained

Throughout season 4 of Titans, Gar hears voices inside his head and is occasionally transported to a different place altogether, known as The Red.

Gar sees visions of a tree in the middle of a desert with animal bones hanging from it and later on, he sees it in person along with Rachel. When he describes it to Jinx, she appears to recognize what he’s talking about but doesn’t reveal much.

He continues to have these visions and one day, he’s stopped by a stranger who tells him to “go to the red when the tower splits” but Gar is weirded out by this and doesn’t pay too much attention to the man.

When they’re fighting the blood cult in the temple, the place splits after Sebastian completes the ritual and Gar realizes that this is what the stranger was talking about. He asks to be taken away and he disappears along with the rest of the Titans.

A force of life

When he wakes up, he finds himself in a cave atop the Kilimanjaro mountain with the stranger who told him to listen to the voices. The man introduces himself as Dominic Mndawe and claims to be an avatar of The Red.

Dominic was given the Beast Helmet that bestows him with powers and he fights for animal life as ‘Freedom Beast’. He explains to Gar that the Red is a force that connects all living organisms in the universe and that Gar is also an avatar of this force.

Dominic teaches Gar about The Red

He helps Gar go through a spiritual journey through his past and shows him visions of a lab nearby that created the virus that killed Gar’s parents. Together, they infiltrate the lab and kill the doctor in charge but Dominic reveals that all of this happened already.

He needed a way to get Gar to the lab so that he could show him who was responsible for his condition. Gar sees that the lab was run by Niles Caulder, the man he thought had saved him.

Dominic tells Gar that he must serve the Red and fight for all living organisms which means that he cannot go back to his team but Gar insists that since he’s connected to every being, he can go back to them and fight for the red as well.

After defeating Sebastian, Gar tells everyone that he must go back to the Red because he has some unfinished business there.
