The cannibals of the lowlands in See season 3 explained

In order to reach Pennsa before Tormada, Harlan suggested a tricky route to Baba Voss, which saw them crossing paths with a tribe of cannibals, who were out there for blood.

Baba Voss and his group were a step behind Tormada, who had picked up his bombs from the House of Enlightenment and had left for Pennsa.

Baba Voss and his group wanted to alert Maghra and the Payan Kingdom, but at the same time, Voss cared for his son Kofun, who was quite injured.

The group took a break and started figuring out ways they can reach Pennsa faster.

The lowlands

Harlan told Baba Voss about a route that is sometimes used by smugglers. A dangerous one, but that route would save them a day or two to Pennsa.

Guntar knew about the route Harlan is talking about. He referred to it as the lowlands. Harlan went on to describe it as a tricky terrain that doesn’t appear on any of the maps they have.

He also mentioned that he has previously lost men there. Guntar even claimed that there are spirits that haunt this place.

Baba Voss and his group arrive at the lowlands

Harlan advised Baba Voss that the route might not be the ideal choice, but it’s definitely the fastest one. With three sighted people in their group, he believed they can easily pass through it.

Harlan even assured Baba Voss that he has traveled through the lowlands twice, with far less than what they have right now. Without questioning any further, Baba Voss asked Harlan to lead the way.

The cannibals at the Lowlands

During their journey through the lowlands, Baba Voss and his group felt surrounded by a group of people. Harlan tried talking to them. In response, he got a growl instead.

Harlan thought the growl came from a dog, but the Ranger knew these growls aren’t coming from any dog. Guntar lost his hand on one of the horses and followed it, only to be attacked by someone.

Eventually, a group of wild human beings made their moves on Baba Voss and his group. These beings took Harlan, Haniwa, and Guntar alive.

The actions of these beings helped Baba Voss identify them. As a kid, he heard stories about them. A tribe that lives like animals, hunting and eating their own kind.

The cannibals and their leader at their hideout

Kofun remembered reading about them and referred to them as cannibals.

While Kofun left to warn Maghra, Baba Voss, the Ranger, and Wren decided to follow these flesh-eaters to their hideout. Haniwa and Harlan fought their way out of the cannibals’ hideout.

Though Baba Voss and his group achieved victory over these flesh-eaters, Harlan was seriously injured and not in any condition to walk.

Before dying, he said his final goodbyes to Haniwa and the group as he gave her a key for Maghra. Harlan also claimed that there are more of these cannibals living in these terrains.

If any of them are ever to cross the lowlands again, they might have to battle these flesh-eaters again.
