Plot summary:

Rodrigo is having a birthday party and his parents’ wealthy friends are all invited. His father, Emiliano is a lawyer, and his mother Daniela is a detective.

Daniela’s sister Carla is a reporter married to Emiliano’s business partner, David. Their third business partner is Javier, who is married to Brenda and the stepfather to her son Matteo.

Charro and his wife Lupita are invited because their son Gabi is friends with Rodrigo. Gabi’s older brother Alex has recently started dating Lucia, Rodrigo’s older sister.

Daniela invites her former psychologist, Fabian, whose daughter Paula is also friends with Rodrigo.

The party gets underway but the bounce house isn’t ready as the family’s caretaker, Moncho has been busy with tasks all day.

His children get along with Rodrigo and his family is well taken care of by their employers but Moncho’s wife Yolanda still despises them because they are rich and she is poor.

Emiliano and his partners are on edge because they await a call with American investors regarding a million-dollar deal to build an amusement park.

He finally gets the call and leaves the party area but while he’s away, the bounce house with all the children inside is blown away by a strong gust of wind.

Rodrigo, Matteo, and Gabi do not survive, while Paula goes missing with the bounce house. Everyone is devasted by this tragedy and reacts in different ways.

Brenda looks through the videos of the party and discovers that one of the stakes for the house wasn’t struck into the ground.

The families blame Moncho because it was his responsibility, but Emiliano privately admits to David that he was the one who forgot to knock it in.

Moncho is arrested for a crime he didn’t commit and Emiliano wants to turn himself in. David convinces him not to do that because it would jeopardize everything they worked for.

Fabian is desperate to find his daughter and the police conduct search parties in the forest to find her.

Lupita wants someone to pay for the murder of her child and Charro promises to have Moncho killed for what he did.

He left Jalisco and moved to Santa Cruz because of his illegal activities and he shows no concern for the law even here.

Yola lets her greed take over and agrees to compensation as long as Moncho accepts fault for the accident.

Emiliano chooses to represent Moncho because he is overcome with guilt but everyone else doesn’t understand his decision, including his wife.

Lucia turns to drugs to deal with the pain but Alex tries to convince her that it is not the right thing to do.

Charro bribes a cop to kill Moncho in jail but that plan fails. Someone else enters the police station claiming to be Moncho’s lawyer and poisons him.

Fabian and Daniela finally find Paula next to a statue of the Virgin Mary under a waterfall and rush her back to the hospital.

Her story is picked up by media and true believers who want to be blessed by the girl who was saved by a miracle from Saint Mary.

Emiliano tells Daniela and then turns himself over to the police. David preys on Lupita’s grief and sleeps with her, but Charro finds out.

He is abusive towards her and then beats up David, threatening his life. Brenda wants another child but Javier doesn’t.

She is also hurt by the fact that Javier still defends Emiliano, even though Javier is doing that to safeguard their business and their livelihood.

To take her mind away from the death of her son, Daniela works on the drug case involving Lucia’s school.

She doesn’t know that Lucia is one of the buyers and her ex-boyfriend Nico is the dealer. Alex helps Lucia escape from a sticky situation but is captured by Daniela and taken in.

Charro and Lupita accuse Daniela of having an agenda against their family since they also find out the truth about Emiliano.

Yola is still waiting on what was promised to her by Emiliano when she agrees to speak to Carla about what happened for more money.

The prosecutor on the case is someone who had an affair with Daniela years ago and almost broke her marriage so he has a personal vendetta against Emiliano.

Alex and Lucia run away together because they are tired of the drama caused by their parents.

An amber alert is sent out, while Charro sends his assistant, Peyote, to bring Alex back and kill Lucia.

Lucia overdoses on fentanyl but Emiliano gets to her in time to save her. Daniela tells Alex to stay away thinking that he’s responsible for getting her involved with drugs.

Charro kidnaps Carla and uses that as leverage to get inserted into the million-dollar deal with the Americans.

Fabian calls Paula’s mother because her daughter needs her during this difficult time. Paula claims to speak to Mary and there are throngs of people crowding outside her house.

Paula’s mother is an aspiring actress who left them six years ago but now she believes her daughter was saved by a miracle and wants to capitalize on that.

The man who killed Moncho reaches out to the person who hired him and asks for more money to keep silent. It is revealed to be Lupita, who agrees to pay him off.

Ending explained:

Settling things down

Lucia recovers from her overdose and explains everything to her parents. They agree to help her get through her addiction and let Alex back into her life because he is a good influence.

Carla meets Yola to pay her what is owed and talks about how successful her article is, even though it drove a wedge between her and Daniela.

Lupita poisons the man trying to blackmail her and the police find his body. Daniela promises Yola that she will find whoever hired him.

Charro has his lawyer redraw the partnership agreement to cut Emiliano out because it is amenable to their American investors.

He also works with prosecutor to ensure Emiliano gets punished for his negligence that killed their children.

Facing the verdict

Fabian is an atheist who doesn’t want to encourage Paula’s belief that she was chosen by Mary but her mother files for custody.

She tells Paula that they can make up for lost time but Paula says she likes living with her father and doesn’t want to leave.

The prosecutor uses Yola’s interview to arrest Emiliano and promises to serve justice. Charro’s construction crew finds some archaeological artifacts at the site of the park.

Javier mentions this to the investors and they have to shut down the project because the ministry of culture is strict about these things.

The trial takes place and after Javier defends Emiliano and claims that it was a genuine and unfortunate mistake, he is sentenced to two years in prison.

Moving on in life

Javier and Brenda overcome their differences because they truly love each other. They agree to try for a child since Brenda wanted it.

Charro invites David to the dig site claiming that he knows how to restart the project. He kills David for sleeping with his wife and buries him in the middle of nowhere.

After killing Moncho’s killer, Lupita places evidence in his car that implicates Charro. The police arrest him later for his role in the murder and his past crimes.

Daniela visits Yola and gives her new passports and documents so that they can move to America just as Emiliano promised.

She is grateful for his generosity despite how she ruined his life by speaking out against him.

Fabian and Paula pay their respects to the statue where she was found and she says that she is not going to speak about her experiences with Mary because no one else will understand.

Daniela visits Emiliano in prison and tells him that their love is still strong since she cannot imagine life without him.

He asks her to wait for him as he repents for his sins.
