Tere learns to accept herself the way she never did before when she meets Cindy’s cousin, Angie. In Cindy la Regia: The High School Years, Carola Cuarón plays Tere.
Tere is one of Cindy’s friends, so when Angie moves to San Pedro, Tere welcomes her and offers to show her around.
With time, Angie becomes part of Cindy’s friend group. The more time Tere spends with Angie, the closer the two girls grow.
Tere likes Angie a lot, but it takes her a long time to realize that her feelings for Angie are not platonic.
Just friends
Tere is sweet and kind. She is a little uncertain about how to react when Angie reveals that she is gay, but she is not a homophobe like most of the other students.
Angie and Tere go on to become good friends. Angie trusts Tere enough to tell her why her mother sent her to live with Cindy’s family.
When Angie breaks up with her girlfriend, it is Tere who comforts her. Angie likes Tere and tries to kiss her.
Tere, who plans to be a nun, does not reciprocate Angie’s feelings, so nothing happens between them, but the incident makes things awkward.
Unlike Angie, Tere is religious. She is going to study theology and then eventually go to a convent.
However, due to miscommunication, Angie comes to believe that Tere wants to come out and needs her help.
When Angie finds out that Tere only wants Angie’s support because she is participating in a talent show and not because she wants to come out, Angie is disappointed.
Angie decides to end their friendship, but she changes her mind after talking to Cindy, who makes her realize that she does not want to lose Tere completely.
A step towards self-acceptance
Angie apologizes to Tere and reconciles with the fact that Tere will never see her as more than a friend.
However, when Cindy lies to Tere and tells her that they are going to New Mexico because Angie wants to meet her ex-girlfriend, Tere is not unaffected.
As a result, Tere impulsively tags along. Even after Tere finds out the truth, she gets jealous when she sees Angie with Irene.
It becomes evident to Irene that Tere and Angie are in love, but Tere herself is not aware of her feelings.
Angie then tries to talk to Tere about her sexuality, but Tere is not ready to have that conversation.
It is only when Tere comes to know that Angie is moving back home that she realizes that she has feelings for Angie and that she will regret not acting on them.
Tere then sings her feelings to Angie, kisses her, and asks her not to leave. Meeting Angie changes the way Tere sees the world and herself. When she kisses Angie, she takes a step towards accepting herself.
