In Castlevania: Nocturne, Tera is a Speaker who raises Richter as her own son after his mother dies. Nastassja Kinski voices Tera.
Tera comes from a clan of Speakers and can do magic. After Richter’s mother’s death, Richter moves to France to live with Tera, her mother’s distant cousin, and Maria, Tera’s daughter.
Tera is poor, but she does her best to raise the two children on her own. When the time comes, she does not hesitate to face the vampire whose fear has haunted her for years to save the ones she loves.
Tera’s past
Tera was born in Russia. Her family settled in a small village where people were poor and oppressed. Tera’s family helped the people there. One day, they get attacked by soldiers and vampires, and Tera encounters Erzsebet and Drolta for the first time.
Tera’s sister is kidnapped by Erzsebet. When Tera goes to save her, she realizes just how cruel and sadistic Erzsebet is. Tera finds out that Erzsebet tortures her victims for as long as they are alive and takes pleasure in it.
Tera’s sister is turned into a vampire, and Tera cannot do anything to save her, so she kills her sister and flees. The fear of Erzsebet finding her leads to Tera leaving everything behind and moving to another country. She finally finds refuge in Machecoul.
Initially, the townspeople are not very welcoming, as they are suspicious of Tera, a foreigner. At that time, the abbey is the only place where she is not regarded with suspicion. The Abbot helps her and shows her kindness, and Tera and the Abbot grow closer.
Tera ends up having the Abbot’s daughter, Maria. However, Tera chooses to keep the identity of Maria’s father a secret because she wants Maria to be safe. Maria grows up thinking that her father is dead, and Tera is the only parent she has.
A mother’s love
Years after leaving Russia, Tera finds out that Erzsebet is coming to France. The news shakes her because she still fears Erzsebet. Furthermore, the Abbot is suspected of working with Erzsebet and forging night creatures.
Tera refuses to believe it until she sees it with her own eyes, as she thinks that the Abbot is a good man. Soon, Tera realizes that the Abbot is not the man she once knew. When the Abbot kidnaps Maria to kill her, Tera goes to save her as well as send the forging machine back to Hell.
Tera was able to decode the instructions written in the book that Olrox gave them. She reads the spells in the book to open a portal to Hell. However, when Erzsebet arrives, Tera gets so scared that she stops casting the spell, and the portal closes.
Erzsebet wants the Abbot to sacrifice his daughter to her. She wants to turn the person he loves into a vampire to gain his loyalty. However, unlike the Abbot, Tera is unwilling to sacrifice her daughter. She faces the vampires she has feared all her life and asks her to take her instead of her daughter.
As Tera is a Speaker and has the potential to be a powerful vampire, Erzsebet agrees to let her sacrifice herself. Tera is then turned into a vampire, which means she will have to follow Erzsebet for eternity.
