Song Chon: A Killer Paradox character explained

Song Chon, Roh Bin’s ex-partner, is a dangerous man who wishes to join forces with Tang. In A Killer Paradox, Lee Hee-joon plays Song Chon.

Before Roh Bin started working with Tang, he used to work with Song Chon. Roh Bin has always wanted to change the world by bringing wrongdoers to justice.

Song Chon seemed like the perfect partner; he was the hero Roh Bin needed. However, he soon realizes that Song Chon is anything but a hero.

Going down the wrong path

Song Chon was not always unscrupulous. He wanted to be a Violent Crimes detective like Nan-gam’s father, Gap-su, who saved him when he was a child.

Song Chon’s father was a criminal, but Song Chon chose to live a different life and ended up becoming a police detective.

Even though Song Chon puts in considerable effort studying and training for a promotion, Gap-su ensures that he does not receive it.

Despite that, Song Chon looks up to Gap-su, believing that he must have had his reasons for hindering his chances of getting a promotion.

Gap-su continues mistreating Song Chon until the day Song Chon finds out that Gap-su is smuggling drugs at the cost of innocent lives.

He confronts Gap-su and realizes that Gap-su is just another corrupt cop. Gap-su beats Song Chon up and does not stop even when Song Chon pleads with him.

Song Chon realizes that Gap-su only ever saw him as a murderer’s son. When Gap-su insults his father, Song Chon loses his calm and retaliates.

Gap-su ends up in the hospital, brain-dead, and Song Chon becomes a serial killer. Years later, he returns to finish what he started and kills Gap-su.

A killer who inspires fear

After leaving the force, Song Chon eventually meets Roh Bin and works with him until Roh Bin realizes that Song Chon is unnecessarily cruel.

Like Tang, Song Chon also takes it upon himself to punish evil individuals by killing them. However, Song Chon is much more dangerous than Tang and kills for minor offenses.

Upon realizing his mistake, Roh Bin seeks Nan-gam’s help. He tells him everything about Song Chon and asks him to apprehend him.

Despite Nan-gam’s best efforts, Song Chon gets away, and Nan-gam fails to avenge his father. Years later, when Song Chon hears about Tang, he reappears.

He wants to know how Tang chooses his victims and whether he is any different from him. He also asks Tang to join forces with him to punish all the wrongdoers.

When Tang refuses, Song Chon decides that Tang is just another murderer who deserves to die. He then starts chasing Tang, killing others along the way.

It is not easy to stop Song Chon. He is as fearless as he is dangerous, and even powerful and influential men, like Chairman Hyeong, fail to harm Song Chon.

Although Nan-gam manages to predict Song Chon’s actions and arrest him, Song Chon escapes in no time.

In the end, Song Chon gets to face Tang, Nan-gam, and Roh Bin together. He is prepared to kill them, but he only manages to kill Roh Bin.

An injured Song Chon insults Nan-gam’s parents, and Nan-gam kills him, similar to Gap-su’s actions that provoked Song Chon’s initial attack.

Song Chon dies believing that the world needs people like him and Tang, who take the law into their own hands to bring justice.
