Plot summary
Octavio Bergmann, an MMA fighter, has a big match against an opponent named Benko.
There’s a lot of hype around the match and a lot of people have bet their money on their favorites as well.
However, all Octa is concerned about is attending his little daughter Leonie’s birthday party in time.
She doesn’t have high hopes, as she stays waiting for him without eating anything.
When Octa learns that his ex-girlfriend Mina has decided to take sole custody of Leonie if he doesn’t arrive before six o’clock, she’s going to ensure he never sees her again.
Octa bails on the match, and Paul’s sketchy old friend Chino doesn’t want that, as he’s bet 75,000 of his money on him.
His men chase Octa, and he eats many punches while trying to brush them off.
After a lot of bruises, cuts, and a gash in his stomach, he gets inspired at his parents’ home to resume his journey to reunite with his daughter.
He contends with Chino again and helps come in the form of Cosi, Paul, and other friends from the gym.
More gashes, cuts, and bruises later, he finally makes his way to Leonie, as Sixty Minutes draws the curtains.
Ending explained:
Who is Chino?
Chino is an old friend of Paul. He is also a gangster who had bet 70,000 of his own money on Octa, and 500,000 of Danica’s money.
Danica is the head of a gambling mafia. So the stakes are high for Chino as far as the Octa vs Benko game is concerned.
The game is rigged beforehand and Benko, who is also a part of this rigging and betting, is supposed to lose in the third round.
When Octa bails on the match to go meet his daughter and prevent her custody from becoming the sole responsibility of her mother, Chino is alerted and worried beyond words.
He releases his men on Octa, telling them to bring him back so he can fight again.
Since this is illegal betting that he’s involved in, if Octa doesn’t play the match, he’ll lose all the money.
The 500,000 of the bet is not his money to lose, though, and Danica wants her money back one way or another.
Chino knows that so he races against time and uses all the moves to get to Octa, as he is trying to get to his daughter within sixty minutes.
Is Paul dead?
Paul isn’t dead at the end of Sixty Minutes but throughout the runtime, he’s in deep trouble.
Later on in the film, he confesses to Octa that he was aware of and a part of the match-fixing.
The gym he and Octa run hasn’t been doing great financially for a while.
To sort that problem out on his own, he resorted to a shady way, which was to take part in the fixing of Octa’s match vs Benko.
He thought that this would take care of their money issues but had no idea that he would get himself and his friends involved with the gambling mafia.
During the last standoff against Chino, he ends up getting shot twice, once in the leg, and once in his shoulder.
Despite his injuries, he manages to take the gun and fire it to chase Chino off the location, in the process saving Octa. Cosi gives him a shoulder and carries him to safety afterward.
Does Octa make it to Leonie?
Yes, he does. He manages to make it to Leonie on her birthday. He is late by a few minutes but he does end up reaching her.
By the time he arrives at his ex-girlfriend’s house, he is too tired and bled out, not to mention riddled with injuries. He falls on the pavement and Leonie spots him.
She runs up to him and lies over him, hugging him with all the love she has for him.
As the two embrace each other, Mina lets them have their moment, happy that Octa kept his word.
Octa is now ready to take the responsibility of raising her properly, as Sixty Minutes rolls the credits.
