Shutter: Master of the House character explained

Shutter, Mavin’s son, pays the price for his father’s wrongdoings. In Master of the House, Thitinan Rattanathitinan plays Shutter.

As Mavin’s only son and intended successor, Shutter faces immense pressure. Mavin, who never received love from his own father, fails to give it to his son.

He pressures Shutter to be perfect and always win for the sake of his own image. Whenever Shutter falls short of these expectations, Mavin is excessively harsh on him.

Shutter’s vain hope

Shutter is studying in New York. His cousin Kita, Phupat’s daughter, wants to follow in his footsteps and attend college there.

Both Shutter and Kita, feeling unloved by their fathers, find comfort in each other. Their families are unaware that they are dating.

They know that their parents would disapprove of their relationship not only because they are cousins but also due to the longstanding rivalry between their fathers over the presidency of Theva Gems.

Kita is aware that their fathers do not love them; they only use them to gain an advantage over each other. She asks Shutter to run away with her.

However, Shutter, still hopeful that his father loves him, refuses to abandon his family, but he does plan to build a life in New York with Kita.

After Roongroj’s death, Mavin gains control of the company. He then acknowledges that he has pressured his son and been harsh with him all his life.

This acknowledgment strengthens Shutter’s hope. However, this hope is soon shattered when Bee exposes his relationship with Kita at a party thrown by his father.

Shutter realizes that Kita was right about his father when Mavin calls him a disgrace and wishes that he had never had Shutter.

The sins of his father

While Shutter is not as cruel as his father, he does not value the lives of the house staff either, believing his life to be more valuable than theirs.

A few years ago, he was driving under the influence and killed a pedestrian and then forced Joke, his driver, to take the blame for the crime.

This is not the only crime he concealed. On the day of his grandfather’s death, Shutter saw his father, drunk and angry, go into his grandfather’s room moments before his grandfather died.

Believing that his father was responsible, he erased the CCTV footage after transferring it to his phone, which was later stolen by Kaimook.

Due to this, the police found no evidence of foul play, and his grandfather’s death was ruled an accident. Mavin was never suspected.

Despite Shutter’s efforts, Mavin fails to appreciate him. Additionally, Shutter pays for both his as well as his father’s mistakes.

After a heated argument with Mavin, Shutter leaves the house in anger, only to be confronted by Tian, Joke’s brother.

Tian targets Shutter because he not only seeks revenge on Shutter for what he did to Joke but also on Mavin for forcing Kaew to get an abortion.

Tian assaults Shutter, leaving him gravely injured. Shutter requires a heart transplant, and although he receives a new heart, he does not survive.
