Shimomura Tatsu: Tokyo Swindlers character explained

Detective Shimomura Tatsu meets a tragic end when he uncovers Harrison’s scheme. In Tokyo Swindlers, Lily Franky plays Detective Shimomura.

Shimomura Tatsu, an experienced detective in the Second Investigation Division, has been investigating land swindlers for years now.

In the past, Shimomura succeeded in arresting Harrison, the infamous land swindler, but had to release him due to a lack of evidence. Shimomura has still not given up on catching Harrison.

Shimomura’s discovery of Harrison’s new plan

Shimomura is going to retire soon, but he does not want to leave without catching Harrison, so he requests a reappointment, which gets rejected.

Just when Shimomura reconciles with leaving his unsolved case to the other detectives, he hears about Harrison’s Mike Homes fraud.

Shimomura knows a lot about Harrison and land frauds, so he is able to guess that Harrison is behind the scam.

Shimomura is then informed that the investigation has been downsized, leaving him with no detectives except his new partner, Kuramochi, whom he is training.

Despite these setbacks, Shimomura and Kuramochi continue investigating. They find a letter written by Takumi’s father, who is in prison now.

The letter and the meeting with Takumi’s father help them uncover Takumi’s real identity and his connection to Harrison’s group.

When Shimomura hears about the murder of a land shark, he connects it to Harrison. The clues from the land shark’s murder, along with Shimomura’s patient efforts, lead to him uncovering Harrison’s entire plan.

However, before Shimomura can prevent Harrison’s group from executing their biggest scam, he is kidnapped by Harrison’s henchmen.

It turns out that Shimomura’s superior, Police Superintendent Hara, is a corrupt officer who has been working for Harrison all along.

Hara not only informed Harrison about Shimomura’s progress in the case, leading to his kidnapping, but also gave him information on his family.

Shimomura realizes Hara’s betrayal, but it is too late. Harrison now threatens to kill Shimomura’s family and burn his house if Shimomura does not do as he says.

Harrison threatens Shimomura

Harrison asks Shimomura to jump off a building to save his family, leaving Shimomura no choice but to sacrifice himself.

Harrison has already forged Shimomura’s handwriting in a suicide note, making it appear that Shimomura took his own life due to health concerns and worries about his life after retirement.

Although Shimomura was not in a happy relationship with his wife and did not talk to her about his work, she is the one who suspects that the suicide note was not written by him.

This suspicion gives Kuramochi all the encouragement she needs to investigate Shimomura’s death as well as the case he dedicated his life to.
