Seo Mok-ha, the protagonist in Castaway Diva, runs away from home to become a singer, but an accident leaves her stranded on an island for years. Park Eun-bin and Lee Re play Mok-ha.
Seo Mok-ha idolizes a famous singer, Ran-joo, and dreams of meeting her one day. She wishes to move to Seoul, impress Ran-joo with her singing, and get recruited by Ran-joo’s agency. While it seems like a childish dream, there is more to it than that.
Mok-ha’s childhood
After Mok-ha’s mother passed away, her father started drinking. He would often get drunk and hurt Mok-ha. Despite that, she gives the impression that she is a carefree teenager because she is hopeful that she will be able to leave her father.
Mok-ha likes Ran-joo so much because Ran-joo is also from Mok-ha’s hometown. She managed to get out of the small island, change her name, and get recognition. Mok-ha wishes to do the same.
She believes that if she becomes as famous as Ran-joo, no one will be able to hurt her, not even her father. She takes Ki-ho’s help and prepares a music video for a fan contest that will be judged by Ran-joo.
At the same time, she calls the police on her father when she cannot take the abuse anymore. Instead of helping her, the police gaslight her, and Mok-ha loses all hope. She no longer believes that she can get away.
However, Ki-ho submits her music video, and Ran-joo’s manager tries to recruit Mok-ha. Ki-ho then convinces Mok-ha to run away to Seoul and be a singer. When her father tries to hurt her again, Mok-ha decides to leave for Seoul immediately with Ki-ho.
With Ki-ho’s help, she leaves the island, but her father finds out about it and follows her. He corners Mok-ha on the ferry, and Mok-ha has no choice but to jump into the water.
Mok-ha survives, but her father, who fell overboard, does not. Mok-ha then finds herself stranded on an uninhabited island all by herself. The authorities fail to find her, and she does not get rescued for the next 15 years.
A dream come true
At the age of 31, Mok-ha gets rescued by two brothers. Mok-ha, who is still a 16-year-old in terms of her education and development, reenters society and comes to know that the world has changed quite a lot.
Mok-ha loves Ran-joo as much as she loved her when she was in high school. As she has no family, a reporter named Kang Woo-hak lets her stay at his house and helps her meet Ran-joo. Mok-ha offers to be her playback singer, and her voice impresses Ran-joo so much that Ran-joo hugs her.
Mok-ha’s dream of meeting her idol comes true, and it makes her feel that everything she has been through on that uninhabited island has not been meaningless. However, this is not the end of her story, as her dream of becoming a star like Ran-joo is yet to be realized.
