Selma: Furies (2024) character explained

In Furies, Selma is the Fury, an assassin who maintains order in the Parisian underworld. Marina Foïs plays Selma.

Selma is the current Fury in Furies. The Fury is a title passed down for generations since 1928 when the Aragos were attacked on Selma’s great-grandmother Daria’s marriage.

The crime was so horrific that the Godfathers united and formed the Olympus, and Daria renounced her claim for vengeance.

The underworld needed someone to maintain balance, and hence, Daria became the very first Fury, who would interfere in crimes among criminals, putting a stop to gang wars.

Since then, the job has been passed from mother to daughter. In the series, Selma is planning to pass down the role of the Fury to her niece, Lyna.

Selma’s nature

Selma cares the utmost about family and is quite protective of Lyna. At least, that’s how she acts. She has often come to her niece’s rescue.

However, at the same time, she doesn’t always tell her team, who respect her and blindly follow her orders, everything they need to know. There are certain secrets that she keeps to herself, which may change the way her colleagues look at her.

Selma warns Lyna not to talk about her condition

Selma is also not fit anymore to keep being a Fury. Selma is suffering from a condition. She relies on pills to go by. Lyna has often noticed her hands shaking.

Selma’s fate

Selma and Lyna share a complicated relationship throughout the series. It’s primarily Selma’s lies that don’t allow Lyna to completely trust Selma.

However, Lyna chooses to be on Selma’s side when she learns that her father, Driss, is the man plotting against the Godfathers and is responsible for the Guerrabs’ deaths.

In the finale, Lyna never finds out the truth about Selma. Everyone believes that Driss is seeking revenge on the Godfathers for stealing everything from him when the Fury took him down.

Also, he massacred the family of his wife, Kahina, who was an undercover cop who infiltrated the underworld.

The truth is that it’s Selma who massacred Kahina’s family out of embarrassment. After all, an undercover cop snooping into the underworld and marrying her brother was a big mistake on the Fury’s end.

To hide her mistake, she painted her brother as the villain. However, she was not able to kill him back then, and Driss returned, seeking revenge.

Selma doesn’t let Lyna find out about this. However, if Lyna ever does find out, things will never be the same between them.
