Does Roy Kim reunite with his biological family in Doctor Cha?

Roy Kimberley is on the search for his biological family ever since the beginning of Doctor Cha, succeeding in finding them to his surprise and disappointment.

Roy Kimberley is a capable young man who’s a reputed and highly skilled surgeon. He’s originally from South Korea but spent most of his life in the U.S., where he was adopted by a couple as a child.

He returned to Korea to practice as a doctor as well as in hopes of finding his biological family and reuniting with them.

The effort

Roy Kim tries out many venues and sources in search of his biological family. The first of his search effort that’s shown in the drama is when he visits the orphanage that took him after he was left there by his parent.

He checks the records but the information about him doesn’t mention anything about the parent. He asks one of the sisters working there if he was abandoned, to which she has no answer.

It is then that very sister who advises him to register his DNA at the police station, in order to possibly get a match.

Bearing fruit

Kim goes to the police station sometime later and asks one of the officers about the chances of him getting to reunite with his family. The officer tells him he’s got s shot if his family would’ve been looking for him as well and had, therefore, registered their DNA as well.

However, she also informs him that for foreign cases, it’s very low and the success rate is only about 1%. Roy Kim is understandably saddened about it.

Not for long, though, as his wishes seem to be coming true. The officer calls back and informs him that his family has been found. Hearing that news gives him an unparalleled sense of elation and he immediately shares the good news with Jeong-Suk.

Reality & the disappointments thereof

He finally gets to meet his blood family, which makes him really nervous. This is why he asks Jeong-Suk to accompany him to the station, and she does.

Kim meets the family that consists of his father, two sisters, and a brother. He meets them in a room and the father instantly begins badmouthing Kim’s late mother, who is not there to defend. It rubs Roy Kim the rub running from the stress.

However, the biggest shocker arrives when he learns that they only tried looking so hard for a family member because the patriarch has a terminal condition and needs bone marrow transplantation.

Roy Kim is absolutely shattered to hear that and let down by the reality. However, while not as a son, he does offer his bone marrow for his blood father because that’s what doctors do. Apart from that, he resents his family who only searched for him when they needed the.
