Rose and NYC Matchmakers’ feud in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel explained

Rose Weissman starts off a lucrative matchmaking business in her community in season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel but she soon faces threats from an established mafia of matchmakers.

Rose Weissman is just a regular housewife with a lot of time on her hands but she finds a way to use her time and intuitive knowledge of the eligible men and women of her community by becoming a matchmaker.

She begins setting up sons and daughters who are looking for suitable partners and gains recognition for unique talents. She also draws the attention of a group of matchmakers who control this business within the five boroughs of New York.

They accuse Rose of overstepping on their territory and order her to stop with some veiled threats but Rose chooses not to back down. She continues to conduct her business at the tea room where she meets her clients and sets up matches.

A brokered peace

Rose decides to be defiant against these women who threatened to ruin her life in no uncertain terms and it does cost her momentarily, although it takes her a while to realize it.

Abe gets all of the shirts back from the drycleaners with burnt iron marks on them, her order for flowers on Thanksgiving arrives dead, and the free trip she won through her bank is canceled before they even get on their flight.

When Abe points out their bad run of luck, Rose immediately worries that it could be the work of the other matchmakers. Her fears are furthered one day when she goes to the tea room to find that it has been burnt down.

Paranoia sets in as every little sound makes Rose jump up with fear and she finally goes to Susie for help. Susie is devastated to find out that the tea room has been destroyed and agrees to help.

She and Dinah mumble about getting Frankie and Nicky involved and since they understand mumble, they offer to help themselves.

Later on, Susie is called down to the women’s prison where she meets Benedetta, one of the matchmakers. Apparently, Susie tipped off the cops that the four women were responsible for the fire at the tea room.
